RE: ABC Arts Landgrab - during the Howard years, the ABC scaled back its arts coverage notably, when shows on the fine arts, architecture, design et al were cancelled whilst sponsored DIY shows flourished on the commercial networks. At the same time, print media also succumbed to sponsored coverage of the arts, and architecture was reduced to DIY segments sponsored by hardware stores. This has also since been scaled back, with all architecture and built environment coverage now reduced to the real estate liftout.

Commercial media has had more than ample opportunity to tap into this niche, but on the whole, they've failed and since put their money elsewhere. ABC has shown previously that they are more than capable of providing great arts coverage, and I for one am more than pleased that they're ramping up their coverage once more.
