$180m man Harold Mitchell, Kerry Stokes and Singo on the Rich List
Australia’s most high profile media buyer Harold Mitchell is among the big names in the new edition of BRW’s Rich List, released this afternoon.
Mitchell – founder of the now ASX-listed Mitchell Communication Group – is at number 181 on the list of the 200 richest Australians, with an estimated fortune of $180m.
Last year an individual’s net worth had to be at least $200m to get on the list, but the downturn has seen that reduced to $150m.
Mitechell has been on and off the list previously. he first went onto it in 1989 with an estimated wealth of $35m. Video of him talking about his appearance on the list can be seen here.
Other big names from the media world include:
- Kerry Stokes (number 11; $1.9bn), whose empire includes significant stakes in the Seven Network, West Australian Newspapers and Pacific Magazines;
- James Packer (number 6; $3bn), who now only has fractional stakes in Nine and ACP Magazines, but retains, through CMH, a major interest in Foxtel.
- Bruce Gordon (number 19, $1.27bn)owner of regional TV player WIN;
- Reg Grundy (number 35, $799m), TV format king;
- John B and Timothy Fairfax (number 55, $618m)- part owners of Fairfax Media;
