In the latest of a series to run over the next few months we present highlights from this year’s Mumbrella360 conference.

Streaming on demand services are becoming heavyweight competitors challenging the dominance of free-to-air-TV and Foxtel in the market. In the State of Streaming session Mumbrella’s Nic Christensen is joined by a panel leaders from leading video streaming services in Australia, including Stan CEO Mike Sneesby, Presto interim CEO Shaun James, Quickflix CEO Stephen Langsford, Fetch TV CEO Scott Lorson and chief digital officer of Network Ten Rebekah Horne.

  • 2:43: Where does everyone sit in terms of subscriber numbers?
  • 4:20: Shaun James- “Large proportion of education going on with the Australian public regarding streaming services”
  • 5:47: Does Netflix help drive the numbers up?
  • 7:48: What does the panel think in terms of changing consumer habits, with the shift from TV to SVOD?
  • 9:20: Horne- “We can’t expect people to look for the SVOD, we need to be the ones presenting the content on a variety of platforms”

  • 37:00: Scott Lorson- “The assumption is that 100% of time shifted content is ad skipped, which is definitely not the case.”
  • 37: 53 What is the plan for branded content whether it be long term or short term?
  • 38:44: Where are you up to with creating Australian Content?
  • 42:30: How are you services affecting Foxtel as you release more and more premium content?
  • 43:26: Shaun James- “There was a lot talk around cord cutting, but since the new year, the language has been cord shaving. It’s not quite the death of linear television as we know it.”
