ABC celebrates first anniversary of China portal

The ABC has celebrated the first anniversary of its China portal AustraliaPlus.cn.

The announcement:

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) is celebrating the first anniversary of its Chinese registered web portal, AustraliaPlus.cn, with major broadcast events with some of China’s biggest media organisations in Shanghai, Beijing and Chengdu.

The celebrations coincide with Australia Week in China and the Australia China Business Awards, which Australia Plus is a proud sponsor of.

The anniversary celebrations kicked off in Shanghai on Saturday night when Australia’s oldest and most prestigious orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, performed with China’s oldest and most prestigious orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra.

The concert will be broadcast on Shanghai Media Group’s East Radio in China and ABC’s Classic FM in Australia, and AustraliaPlus.cn will provide special coverage.

Television audiences in Shanghai will be treated to a line-up of top shows from Australia on Shanghai Media Group’s International Channel Shanghai from Monday 11 April. The showcase will feature a series of programs which puts the spotlight on life outside the main cities of Australia including the remote Norfolk Island.

Thanks to an exciting new partnership between the ABC and Chengdu Television, Sichuan audiences will also enjoy a showcase of special Australia-focused programming on Chengdu TV. This will feature stories filmed in Australia through collaboration between Chengdu TV producers and AustraliaPlus.cn producers.

Meanwhile in China’s capital, Beijing Television will showcase popular Australian lifestyle program specials in primetime, covering food and wine, fashion, life in the outback, arts and crafts and more.

This coincides with the Beijing TV and Film Festival, where the ABC will be participating in discussions on the Internationalisation of Documentary Content, providing insights into producing world class documentaries for the global market.

Ms Lynley Marshall, CEO of ABC International, said “We are delighted with the development of AustraliaPlus.cn and our many Chinese partnerships. AustraliaPlus.cn provides a digital doorway to all Chinese people who have an interest in travelling, learning and doing business in Australia”.

AustraliaPlus.cn, with its regular updates on education, business, travel, health, lifestyle, innovation and culture has already proved popular with audiences not just in China but abroad as well. The website is registered in China, meaning it is optimised and accessible for local audiences.

A regular visitor to AustraliaPlus.cn, Yao Sun, said “I am so impressed by the variety of articles on the site. I can find almost everything I need to know about Australia and useful information about travelling, studying, investing and living in Australia. The stunning photos and videos present a real Australia to me”.

Another fan, LiWen in Shanghai said “the recommended articles are great. I can follow these links and find out more about a particular topic I am interested in. I also like being able to share straight to WeChat”.
