Fiarfax journo Adele Ferguson’s Four Corners investigation performed well last night

The massive media coverage of the 7-Eleven working conditions scandal unveiled by Four Corners boosted the ABC’s investigative show last night by nearly 200,000 viewers.

Its audience of 965,000 was up from 678,000 last week, fuelled by extensive coverage in other media outlets over the weekend, and won the 8.30pm timeslot. The result helped lift ABC above Seven and Ten in audience share.

Ten’s Great Australian Spelling Bee at 7.30pm dipped to 639,000 viewers for the start of its finals week, while Nine’s The Hotplate also held steady at 850,000 as it too enters its finals week, according to OzTam overnight ratings.

Seven’s primetime offerings of Highway Patrol at 7.30pm and Motorway Patrol at 8pm got 945,000 and 802,000 viewers respectively.

Four Corners’ success also buoyed other ABC shows with Australian Story’s film on fashion designer Collette Dinnigan at 8pm drawing 965,000 viewers 9up from 865,000 lat week), beating its reality show rivals.

In the 8.30pm timeslot commercial competitors faded badly with Seven’s Ramsay’s Hotel Hell getting 482,000 viewers, House Husbands ion Nine (8.40pm) getting 732,000 (up from 661,000 last week – although it did add 178,000 in catch up viewers), and Ten’s Have You Been Paying Attention grabbing 621,000.

In the news battle Nine News won the night with 1.183m, dropping to 1.158m at 6.30pm, while Seven had 1.037m at 6pm rising to 1.082m for its Seven News and Today Tonight offering at 6.30pm.

Nine won the night with 20 per cent audience share, ABC was second with 18.4 per cent, Seven third with 17.2 per cent and Ten fourth on 12.6 per cent.
