800 words and X Factor still rule for Seven despite audience declines for both shows
Australian drama 800 Words saw its audience fall for the third successive week but it still cracked the 1m barrier for Channel 7 as X Factor also showed a decline.
The fourth episode of the series, which stars Erik Thomson as a journalist who uproots his life to New Zealand, drew 1.055m, down from 1.17m last week and 1.19 the previous week.
But the numbers are still holding strong for Seven which won the night with an audience share of 22.3 per cent.
The 8.40pm time slot for 800 Words – the evening’s most watched non-news show – went head to head with a new episode of The Big Bang Theory on Nine which attracted 974,000 metro views, according to OzTam overnight ratings.
However Big Bang theory topped the demographics in all of the advertising demographics ahead of The Block and 800 Words.
The live results of the X Factor, which aired immediately before 800 Words on Seven, was seen by 953,000, down from last week’s 1.08m.
In the 7.30pm reality show battle, both The Block and The Biggest Loser saw audiences climb with Nine’s The Block rising from 855,000 to 924,000, while Ten’s The Biggest Loser saw its metro viewing figures rise from 570,000 to 581,000.
Nine took an audience share of 20.7 per cent, Ten captured a 13 per cent share, ABC 11.7 per cent and SBS 4.6 per cent.
The most watched program of the night was Nine News at 6pm which drew 1.057m, falling to 1.01m for the 6.30 segment. The bulletins comfortably beat Seven News which drew 963,000 at 6pm.
In the breakfast battle Sunrise pulled off a convincing win over Nine’s Today with the Seven show grabbing 364,000 viewers on average compared to 281,000.

Solid ep of Big Bang last night.
I was getting worried they’d lost it, but it’s still there.

800 words had such promise as an idea – escapeism and some seriously good talent here – but the preachy VO as the character writes his 800 words is excruciating. And totally unecessary– if it wasn’t for the title.
