ABC’s Sally Cray to join Turnbull team
The ABC’s head of corporate communications Sally Cray is to join the team being assembled by Minister for Communications Malcolm Turnbull, Mumbrella can reveal.
Turnbull was appointed Minister for Communications following the Federal election.
Mumbrella understands that Cray’s last day at the ABC will be this Wednesday.
No word was immediately available on the nature of Cray’s role.
The Murdoch press not being read any more, I wonder if there is still a sense that the ABC is inherently biassed against the LNP? I personally think this is hard to sustain because Q&A quite obviously gives them a fair share of airtime, and we’ve had none, null, zero hint of an impending ‘sack the lot of ’em, reappoint the board” moment in the offing.
Factcheck gets up everyones nose equally. and Gruen, Hamster is independently sourced from commercial. So we’re well down a post-deaggregated national broadcaster path now.
I think the old howard ‘if it looks like an intellectual, smells like an intellectual, or talks like philip adams its a communist” days may be over.
Still, hiring their business brains looks less than smart to me: Brand ABC is pretty good, but its corporate comms?

Maybe the question is more, how long with ABC’s pro-NBN tech blogger Nick Ross last at Aunty now that Malcolm Turnbull – who, Ross always challenged, disagreed with and often derided, to the point of a near slanging-match at a tech media press conference – is in effect the boss of Ross?

if she’s in a comms role, there won’t be much to do … given nobody is allowed to talk to media

Fabfour: good point! This could be the cushiest job next to being in Apple ANZ PR, where all you need to do is say “No comment” to endless rumours and every few months send out a slightly localised version of a press release issued by Cupertino!

Astute point on Nick Ross, the one person who wrote extremely well on the merits of the NBN. I’m no tech head but he just made so much sense and explained the argument so well. A lot to digest but worth his reads, we’ll and truly.
yep, he’ll be gone.
