Above the line, sorry, integrated Mediacom
One of Dr Mumbo’s favourite things is when agencies send out their press releases in Word with track change enabled.
It happens more often than you’d think, and it’s a fantastic way of seeing the spin process at work.
So it was a delight to see Mediacom’s announcement of new communications company, or rather, mobile service provider client Amaysim.
For starters, Mediacom wanted to announce that the account was worth $(well, actually, it seems kinder to take that bit out), but then had a change of heart. So mum’s the word on that one.
But most amusingly was the original draft intended to use the frightfully old fashioned phrase “above the line marketing”. Happily, by the time the release was ready for public consumption, it had become the much more 2010-friendly “integrated media approach”.
As to why the announcement went out seven days after the press release was dated, we may never know.

Ouch!
Could have been a lot worse, I guess… This is a pretty good example of a “track changes” blunder done well: http://ricksegal.typepad.com/p.....t-bus.html

$18M may be the ‘hush’ media spend… but what’s the point? Have you seen the amaysim TV spot, or should we just call it ‘Charlie and the Mobile Factory’… I’ve linked that gem for you here –> http://bit.ly/ghKfw6
I posted earlier today in the commonwealth bank thread about ‘making a better product’ rather than feed consumers BS about how apparently good it is…. Amaysim is a better product and the other telecos should be scared of this finely tunes European model but I’m not loving the cheap feel of trying the come across as Pure.
Maybe this was to much blab for a mediacom thread… but I still think it needed to be said.

If anyone wants to know more about Amaysim I’d recommend the Whirlpool thread: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1581974
Essentially they look fairly good, although it looks like TPG has a better product at the moment – however with the entry of Amaysim it seems the low-cost end of the mobile market might be heating up a little bit.
