Advertisers climb onto Triple M’s Eddie McGuire bandwagon

Austereo’s high profile (and high cost) swoop for Eddie McGuire to take on the breakfast slot on Triple M in Melbourne is already paying commerical dividends, claims the radio station.

The Hot Breakfast show, which launched less than four weeks ago, has announced two new main sponsors, truelocal.com.au and Crazy John’s. Other advertisers that have come on board have included Red Rooster, Jefferson Ford, The Victorian Government, Budget, Musashi, Ashford Homes, mylease.com.au, Swan Plumbing and Premier Homes & Granny Flats.

Austereo has been making the most of McGuire’s star power. The TV presenter has been helping the commercial push by attending daily client brunches to talk through their potential involvement in the show.

McGuire said: “It’s most gratifying that professionals in the industry who have heard our show have such confidence in our product that they’re putting money on the line and investing in Hot Breakfast.”

Cathy Thomas, Austereo’s network sales director, said: “The response to the Hot Breakfast from clients and agencies has been immediate and now we are seeing advertisers showing unprecedented interest.”

The first major test for the show will be the next set of radio ratings, which will be released in a little over four weeks’ time.

  2. I don’t really know why there is so much advertiser interest. I tuned in two mornings last week and felt really uncomfortable when I heard Eddie doing live reads for Millionaire Hot Seat. They were then discussing some other television programs when he mentioned Special Rescue Ops and how well it was rating on Sunday nights. I’m pretty sure that’s not accurate.

I again felt uncomfortable when he was interviewing Mal Walden from Ten News and made a passing comment about how Millionaire will soon be overtaking Ten News in their timeslot.

    I don’t know if it’s just me but I can’t seem to overlook Eddie’s narcissism. It’s a real sticking point and a total turn-off.

  4. It’ll work because it’s “retro” – back to the M’s heyday… the big voiced jocks laughing at each other and the “little lady”…

  6. Interesting list of advertisers. Especially considering this quote from Eddie one month ago:

“There’s a fair few of us who aren’t quite ready for White Lady Funeral ads every five minutes or granny flat ads.”

  8. And there’s many people who cannot stand Eddie and have switched stations.
