Australian Financial Review confirms newspaper overhaul

As predicted by Mumbrella earlier this week, The Australia Financial Review is revamping the newspaper.

The announcement:

From Monday February 27, The Australian Financial Review will revamp the structure of the newspaper.

The current structure that includes a lift-out Market Wrap will change to include a bigger Companies & Markets lift-out, giving readers the top companies and markets stories in one hit.

Driving the changes is Editor-in-Chief of The Australian Financial Review Michael Stutchbury who said: “We have consolidated the companies and market stories into a bigger and broader one lift-out section, in recognition of the fact that these stories are often closely related.  The changes that will be implemented next week are part of broader changes we are working on for the paper.”

The new Companies & Markets lift-out will provide a regular positioning for the Financial Review’s companies section which, until now, has moved around in the book. Financial Services coverage also will be included in the expanded lift-out.

Newly introduced business columnist Matthew Stevens will appear on the back of the new Companies & Markets section.

The change will allow The Australian Financial Review to become less ‘sectionalised’ and more focused on the big stories that cut across business, markets, the economy and politics.

The new weekly Technology section on Tuesday’s, replacing the daily Information Technology page, is also part of the change to consolidate daily sections within the paper and will allow big technology stories to appear more prominently in up-front news, or in Companies & Markets.
