AFR – now advertising subs with News Corp
So where’s an ideal environment to advertise subscriptions to Fairfax Media’s AFR? On News Corp’s news.com.au apparently. Dr Mumbo’s heart is always warmed when he sees our biggest media players involved in such a fruitful partnership (albeit via targeted ads).
And let’s not pay too much attention to the fact that while the ad is for a six month subscription to the AFR Weekend print edition, it links to a landing page promoting a 12 month subscription to the digital package.
Or indeed that on the first page the deadline to subscribe is June 30, while on the next page it’s December 17. Other than that, Fairfax is nailing that tricky paywall marketing.
Looks like panic stations. I note that they stopped reporting their digital subs numbers a while ago.

Very interesting because News said that only approved advertisers could advertise through their private market place. Therefore, they must have approved Fairfax.

Hello Anonymous,
I have noticed something of a pattern when somebody comments “slow news day” on one of our articles. Almost without exception, the story involves them, or their company, which may not leave them entirely unbiased about the issue at hand. I can’t help but notice that, based on your IP address, that applies here.
And to your other point, I don’t think you have seen an ad for AdNews on our site. You’ve seen an ad from Mumbrella about AdNews (and other titles), and the fact that they don’t audit their bold claims about their website numbers.
Cheers,
Tim – Mumbrella
I was a digital subscriber until a week ago when my subscription ran out and nobody got in touch with me…I can’t afford it anyway.

Is that a fair dinkum ad on their site or has your browser been infected with the adchoices virus? That thing loads up web pages with countless random ads.
