AIMIA Awards 2010 finalists unveiled

The Australian Interactive Media Industry Association has unveiled the finalists for its 16th Annual Awards, with Soap Creative dominating the tally board. 

The AIMIA Awards, also known The Amys, showcases work by Australia’s interactive media and digital content sectors, and this year includes the new categories of Best Sport, Best Online Video and a People’s Choice Award.

Among the finalists, Fairfax Digital and News Digital Media were notably absent from the Best Classifieds, News or Media category, though News.com.au has featured in the Effectiveness Award shortlist for its InstaBudget entry.

Last year, Fairfax’s smh.com.au and NDM’s news.com.au were finalists in Best Classifieds, News or Media – though it was subsequently taken out by Wotnews.com.au.

Elsewhere, digital agency Soap Creative has had a strong showing with a tally of 10 finalist submissions. The agency, together with Universal McCann have been nominated for their Unilever Lynx work in the Best Advertising or Marketing, Best Cross Platform, Best Entertainment, Best Sport and Best Integration with an Offline Campaign categories.

Soap Creative, Profero and OMD are also finalists for Best Advertising or Marketing for their work for Johnson’s Baby. Soap Creative is also a finalist for the Effectiveness Award in conjunction with client LG, and separately for the Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 campaign.

Meanwhile, BMF has made it as a finalist six times, on four occasions nominated in conjunction with Holler for their Tooheys Extra Dry 5 Seeds campaign.

Digital agency Visual Jazz also had seven finalist entries for a number of clients including Holden, Jetstar and the Defence Force.

Paul McCarthy, AIMIA Awards judging chair, said: “Among the highlights are a handful of amazing works in the Best Classifieds, News, Media or Reference category including the remarkable Black Saturday Bushfire coverage by ABC Innovation and an inventive new way to consume news media with Teamstream.”

“Another very interesting trend is the continued emergence of new digital service businesses reaching global customers such as the design and art community RedBubble, music charts site We Are Hunted and webcasting platform Viocast.”

A total of 122 entries were selected as finalists across 25 categories. The new People’s Choice Award will be voted for by AIMIA members from the total pool of category finalists.

Winners of the Awards will be announced at an event in Melbourne on March 5.
