Air New Zealand has continued to roll out quirky inflight safety videos with the latest set in iconic surf locations and featuring some of the world’s greatest surfers.

Called Surfing Safaris, the video features well-known surfers from across the globe including three time world champion Australian Mick Fanning, Brazil’s 2014 world champion Gabriel Medina and Americans Laird Hamilton and Alana Blanchard.

The video, which follows a number of Hobbit-themed safety demos, was shot in the Gold Coast, Malibu and at Raglan and Piha in New Zealand.

Air New Zealand head of global brand development Jodi Williams said the video will double as a marketing aid with Sports Illustrated, who have again collaborated with the airline, hosting Surfing Safari on its online channels.

Sports Illustrated previously worked with Air New Zealand on its Safety in Paradise video shot in the Cook Islands 18 months ago. The latest video features Sports Illustrated model and American big-wave surfer Anastasia Ashley.

“Previous safety videos have done a fantastic job in selling seats and driving tourism flows whether it be to New Zealand off the back of the two Hobbit inspired videos and Bear Grylls experiencing one of New Zealand’s Great Walks or the collaboration with Sports Illustrated that boosted tourism to the Cook Islands,” Williams said.

Sports Illustrated’s executive director, experiential media Hillary Drezner said it was a “no brainer” to take part in another safety video with the airline.

“Air New Zealand’s commitment to creative excellence and its ability to work with global partners to leverage brand activity on the global stage is unparalleled in the airline industry and it has been fantastic to team up again,” she said.
