All Blacks marketing boss Todd Barberel joins Mumbrella Sports Marketing Summit line up

All_Blacks_logo.svgThe man charged with looking after marketing and commercial deals for one of New Zealand’s most treasured brands the All Blacks will be interviewed live on stage at Mumbrella’s Sports Marketing Summit next month.

Todd Barberel, the head of marketing, brand and commercial development, has been with NZ Rugby for 15 years, working in various roles with different sponsors including Adidas and AIG – which have both signed long-term contracts – as well as partners including Air New Zealand, which today released its new safety video starring a number of All Blacks players.

The appearance comes just over a week before the start of the Rugby World Cup, the pinnacle of the sport, where the team are defending champions.

Speakers previously announced include a keynote from Football Federation Australia (FFA) chief executive David Gallop, SBS football presenter Les Murray and Shane Mattiske, a NRL executive and current co-managing director of Repucom in Australia.

Barberel will also sit on the Question Time panel at the end of the day alongside Holden’s chief marketing officer Geraldine Davys – one of the biggest sports sponsors in the country, and Stuart Taggart, a leading sports futurist who has worked with many of the biggest sports and marketers in Australia.

Top marketers from AFL club Collingwood and NRL team the Melbourne Storm are on a panel looking at the changing nature of fan engagement, alongside Fox Sports’ head of marketing, brand and social Chris Gross.

Magpies’ marketing director Margie Amarfio will share tips about how Collingwood built the largest membership base of any Australian sports club, while the Storm’s chief marketer Mike Billings will go deeper on the team’s trial of a new loyalty system, Lightning Rewards. Meanwhile, Cricket Australia’s head of digital Finn Bradshaw will reveal how they kept fans engaged through the latest Ashes series.

The Roar founder Zac Zavos will also share his insights on the panel, which will be moderated by sports marketing futurist and founder of Relevant Innovation, Stuart Taggart.

A panel looking at commercial opportunities around the Olympics, which are held in just under a year in Rio, will feature Seven West Media’s chief revenue officer Kurt Burnette – the broadcast partners for the games; Visa Australia marketing director Caroline Dempsey, which is a global partner for the event; Simon Ryan the CEO of media agency Carat which represents many major brands globally; Damien Moston, director of sales for Sports and Marketing Management, which looks after the sponsorships for the Australian Olympic Committee; and Andrew Clarke the client services director for Octagon, one of Australia’s leading sports marketing agencies.
