Alzheimer’s Australia targets politicians in Valentine’s Day DM blast
Alzheimer’s Australia has sent thousands of letters to politicians today as part of a Valentine’s Day campaign that asks: “What would you do if your loved one couldn’t remember you?”
The charity is also handing out 100,000 Valentine’s Day-themed cards on the streets of Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Darwin, Hobart, Alice Springs, Adelaide and Perth.
The campaign is an attempt to raise $500m over five years for dementia awareness and treatment, and is one the last opportunities the charity has to influence the decisions around the May Federal Budget, according to Alzheimer’s Australia CEO Glenn Rees.
PR agency Porter Novelli is running the campaign.
Love it. Shows how creative not-for-profits can be on low budgets. Far more impactful than a million dollar TVC. Take note federal government PR teams!

A heart-shaped letter to a politician (by the way, it won’t even get within 10 offices of said politician – they have people to bin this sort of thing) and handing out leaflets in the street “far more impactful than a million dollar TVC”?
I don’t think so.

I saw the campaign in the Age and HS, Valentines Day specials. Was impressed, thought it was an interesting idea… and it’s simple blue- green design stood out well against the noise of the declarations of lover.

Didn’t they mean “Dear ex-Prime Minister” Hawke?

IYesterday was my saddest day. I placed my husband in a care. My husband suffered Early Onset of Alzheimers. I noticed that my husband know my name but does know who am I to him. I cried buckets when doctors, support groups told me I could no longer care for him at home, even I have an EACHD package.
Politicians helping I really doubt it.
