Animal Kingdom’s David Michod looks to Robert Pattinson for The Rover
Australian director David Michod is in talks with Twilight’s Robert Pattinson for the lead role of Michod’s next film.
Also in talks for the film titled The Rover, is Guy Pearce, who played SGT Nathan Leckie in Michod’s debut feature, Animal Kingdom.
A spokesperson for Porchlight told Encore Michod and producer Liz Watts was “in midst of discussions with a number of actors including Robert Pattinson and Guy Pearce.”
The story follows a man in pursuit of his car which has been stolen by thieves in the Australian outback.
While Pearce is reported to play the man in search of his car, according to Deadline, Pattinson, also starring in David Cronenberg’s new film Cosmopolis, will play Reynolds, the brother of one of the thieves, left behind when an encounter with the police goes wrong.
Produced by Watts for Porchlight and David Linde’s Lava Bear, the story is also penned by Michod, and co-created by Joel Edgerton.
Variety reports the sale of The Rover is being represented by United Talent Agency’s Independent Film Group.
Animal Kingdom was a critical success that took 10 awards at the AFIs and Jacki Weaver nominated for an Oscar for best supporting actress.
