Arnie mistakes a waiter for a woman in next Realestate.com.au ad
Realestate.com.au has released the second as in its new campaign featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger where he mistakes Australia for Austria.
In the new spot from BWM Melbourne the actor mistakes a male waiter with long hair and a beard for a woman as he serves him coffee, after telling assistant Dylan no-one knows Austria better than him.
The ad is the latest in a multi-million dollar campaign for the real estate site where different features are demonstrated each time.
That was a little underwhelming.

These ads are fun.
I think they’ll do good for the realestate brand.

The nail in Domains and REA’s coffin will not be a traditional TVC. It will be a better, faster, easier to use site that gives the user access to all properties on any device, without the distraction of banners and irrelevant paid showcases. It will also be a site that doesn’t pinch its rates and fleece the advertisers, instead enabling agents to bid in a CPC sense. Its only a matter of time surely?

Wow, it’s like Arnold doesn’t understand the difference between “comparing the market” and “comparing the meerkat” or something.
Congrats to the team at BWM for selling in something different to REA group, though. To me, that’s the truly impressive part of this campaign.

Is that waiter Arnie’s famous girly-man?

Wouldn’t it be great if more advertisers took off their marketing to the bored room /shareholders and followed the gut instinct and braveness of RealEstate.com- trusted their agency and produced commercials that actually engaged the viewers as opposed to researching the hell out of everything and turning it bland.
This campaign isn’t creative wank as we normally get if different. It is funny!

@Property Hunter
You are in lah lah land and obviously have no idea what’s involved in running a successful multi-national technology company. Meh!
Great ads. Looking forward to seeing more. Well done BWM for sure!! 🙂

@Aussie_Austridge
I think the long hair and the beard combo is a reference to another recent Austrian celeb – Conchita Wurst. Funny

Perhaps Realestate.com.au should review their audience demo stats before choosing their next brand ambassador.
After sleeping with his maid for roughly ten years, fathering a child with her, and then lying about it, women globally do not rate Arnold Schwarzenneger AT ALL.
Considering the majority of REA’s audience are females – either purchasers or influences, Mr. Schwarzenneger was a poor choice of brand ambassador that will likely cause more damage than good for REA. Additionally the spots are not entertaining – they’re stupid.

Not as strong IMO, as the first ones, but still great brave advertising…

@Know your audience
Obviously a Fairfax employee.
These TVCs reflect a concious effort by REA to break down the habitual nature of property hunters in Sydney East, North and Inner West whose inclination is to search Domain first and cross-check with REA. Particularly as REA has improved its listings share in those markets in the last few years, it makes sense to advertise to the masses with a fully equipped and competitive alternative with the help of Arnie to ram home the message that REA exists and you should be thinking about REA. I don’t think it matters whether Arnie is or isn’t liked by females. He who shouts loudest and cuts through the crap comes out ahead. The latest REA campaign is here to stay and I’ll be interested to see how Domain respond. Their ads are a joke really.

Agree @TruthSerum – I doubt REA would see Arnold Schwarzenneger as their brand ambassador. And @knowyouraudience do you really think REA would launch this without any testing…. Really…? And as for stupid, should we talk about dexter? Out voted I’d say.

@knowyouraudience better start job hunting because when ffx flogs Domain you’ll need a new home

Anyone using the acronym REA is from BWM.
Ps the ads are ok. But nothing 4 more rounds of script dev wouldn’t have made excellent. 7/10. Not awful. But not great.

@ Justin Sayer
I’ve consulted to the property industry for years. I’m not affiliated with either REA, Domain or another other site for that matter.
If a TVC with Arnie doesn’t please you, then I don’t know what will. Would you rather watch those embarrasing Coles ads instead?

I like.
The absurdity of the Arnie caricature is a nice antidote to the usual ‘let’s hire someone who is broadly admired by the masses’ approach e.g. Jamie Oliver, Glenn McGrath etc.
And props to realestate.com for backing the agency on it.

Along the lines of “Arnie mistakes a domestic maid for a wife” – then knocks her up under the nose of his wife of Clan Kennedy. Other than the dozens of comments above from the agencies who conceived this awful idea, did anyone stop to think that ‘Arnie’ alienates at least 1/2 the adult home-buying population (ie females). Can’t wait for the full year REA results. Terminate the Sex Pestinator
