Audiences slightly down for second cricket test as Australia struggle against India

The start of the the second test match between Australia and India was the most watched non-news program yesterday, with 736,000 tuning in for session three of the opening day’s play.

This was down on session three of day one of the first test which had an audience of 843,000, with sessions one and two also down on the first test. Session two of yesterday’s match in Brisbane drew a metro audience of 590,000 compared to 637,000 for the first test, which took place in Adelaide.

It wasn’t enough for Nine to secure a ratings win over Seven, with Nine settling for a share of 17.6 per cent while Seven won the night with a share of 19.4 per cent. Ten came in third with 14.6 per cent while the ABC managed 12.7 per cent.

Seven’s most watched non-news show was Criminal Minds, airing at 8.30pm, which was watched by 698,000, out-rating Ten’s movie Night at the Museum which drew a crowd of 531,000. Night at the Museum was the most watched program among people aged 16-39.

In the 7.30pm timeslot, the ABC’s 7.30 had the biggest audience of 718,000, beating Nine’s Customs which grabbed an audience of 649,000. Both shows out-rated Seven’s Air Rescue which was watched by 576,000.

In news, Nine won the night with an audience of 988,000 at 6pm and an audience of 955,000 at 6.30pm. Seven News at 6pm was watched by 863,000 and its 6.30pm news or Today Tonight had an audience of 855,000.
