Aurora goes ad free for Christmas

Community TV channel Aurora is going advertising free on Christmas day.

The channel will also be giving free air time to 12 Australian charities as part of its ’12 days of Giving’ initiative in the run-up to Christmas.

On Christmas day, the channel will run only community service announcements.

Phyllisse Stanton, Aurora CEO, told Mumbrella: “The monetary value of airtime Aurora is donating for the campaign is over $55,000, and the Christmas day beneficiary will reach an expected audience of 160,000. While it may not compare to one of the ‘big guns’, in the context of us being a not-for-profit community channel it is a significant commitment, and one we are proud to be making.”

The charities include Australian Lung Foundation, Fitted for Work, Animals Australia and the National Aboriginal Sporting Chance Academy.

Charles Prouse, CEO of NASCA, said: “Marketing can be an expensive exercise. Having opportunities like the ’12 Days of Giving’ provides program focused organisations like NASCA the chance and voice to share our stories and successes. We greatly appreciate the free air time, and hope to see it become a trend across the television stations.”
