Aussie PR agencies make PR Lions shortlist on fourth time of asking
For the first time since the category was introduced at Cannes in 2009, Australian PR agencies have made the shortlist in the PR category.
One Green Bean leads the way with three finalists – two for a Fair ride for all for Virgin Mobile, and one for Search for Australia’s well worn volleys for Dunlop Volley.
The Red Agency is on the shortlist twice for Sponsor the White House for Vanish Napisan, while Mango got a single finalist for the World’s most remote polling booth for Tourism Australia.
Adelaide creative agency Fnuky is the first contender from outside Sydney or Melbourne to make a shortlist, with The little committee for Keep Australia Beautiful.
Ogilvy Sydney’s Share a Coke and Leo Burnett Melbourne’s BYO Cup Day for 7-Eleven by Leo Burnett Melbourne – which were both shortlisted twice in the Direct and Promo & Activation Lions – have also made the cut for PR.
Grazed on greatness for M.J. Bale’s sponsorship of the Australian Cricket Team by Whybins Sydney secured three nominations, while Naked’s Steal Banksy for Art Series Hotels got one.
Australian agencies managed 14 shortlisted entries in total, while New Zealand secured two.
Entries from Aussie agencies have almost doubled on 2011, up from 38 in 2011 to 70 this year – more than larger markets such as the UK, Japan, China and France.
Only Brazil (85), Germany (71) and the US (139) have entered more campaigns than Australia. However, entries from New Zealand have fallen – down from 13 last year to just nine this time around.
Last year saw Clemenger BBDO Melbourne claim the PR grand prix for Australia with Break Up for NAB, while Leo Burnett won gold for ‘water mark’ for Diageo’s rum brand Bundaberg.
Cummins Nitro won the first ever PR grand prix for Tourism Queensland’s Best Job in the World in 2009.
