Australia v New Zealand: The battle of the airlines
A Rugby World Cup Final between Australia and New Zealand is still the stuff of dreams for fans of the code, but that was not going to stop Air New Zealand throwing down the challenge of a little wager with Qantas after the flying kangaroo tweeted its support for the Wallabies.
The Twitter battle of the Airline brands unfolded after Qantas sent a little social support to the Aussies ahead of their weekend clash against Argentina:
With tongue firmly in cheek the Kiwis wasted little time in responding:
To which the Qantas response came in a curious colour. Nothing says we’re ready to take on the All Blacks like a pink bib:
It was a challenge Air New Zealand could not ignore, throwing down the gauntlet for a “friendly wager”, before hedging a little:
And so we wait – if the Wallabies can hold off Argentina and New Zealand beat the South Africans the stage will be set to see a grand wager fulfilled.
But what should the wager be? Should Qantas run Air NZ’s All Blacks safety video? Should Air NZ begin each flight with a public announcement noting Australia’s supremacy?
Or maybe they could take a leaf out of the book of Jules Vern’s Around the World in 80 Days and challenge their respective CEOs to circumnavigate the globe in unusual modes of transport.
One thing’s for sure – Sportsbet will probably open a market for it.
Qantas air hostesses (i spelt that whilst drunk) should have to do a haka before take off for a week after the AB,s win
