“Mrs Brown’s Boys”? I reckon Pucks (the Matt Le Blanc vehicle from Episodes) would be funnier!

Says a lot for the general public in Australia doesn’t it……

@ Toto… or does it just say there’s not much decent on commercial TV and people will watch any old bollocks (that said, I have Foxtel and there’s not a whole heap worthwhile on there either!!!).

@Toto
Maybe, but it says the same about the general public of Ireland, Britain and just about anywhere else. Whatever the average person thinks about music hall or vaudeville, which may originate from the French voix de ville meaning voice of the locals or town, it is an authentic and respected genre as much as it is an art form.
This kind of humour will not appeal to everyone, but like Musak or elevator music, it is designed to appeal to the masses. Mrs Brown’s Boys may never win awards for art or be elevated to the level of Monty Python or Fawlty Towers in the comedy stakes, but it is honest humour and it is presented with all the due integrity and hard work needed for television comedy or any television show to succeed.
A number of would be comedy writers and comedy producers in our market place, could well take a reality check and learn from the likes of Mrs Brown’s Boys or Citizen Khan.

Wow, what have we come to? I am amazed. This show is utter toilet.
It appeals to the lowest common denominator – but more worryingly, it’s as if a whole generation of intelligent comedy never happened.
Clearly, they thought Gervais’ parody sketch ‘When the whistle blows’ in Extras was a genuine reason to commission this “feckin’ load of shite”.
“Are you having a laugh? Is he having a laugh?”

Sigh! looks like it is the voice or nothing!

@Gobsmacked,
No, I am not having a laugh, he may be, but more importantly, it seems that an enviable number of viewers are certainly getting a laugh.
Don’t you see that people like us, those who don’t find Mrs Brown funny, simply
“don’t feckin count “

The world is too serious..watching some “remove brain” comedy doesn’t hurt. I admit it’s lowbrow, but Brendan O’Carroll who is Mrs Brown said on the Sunday Night program on 7 that it’s what it is and don’t take it seriously..at least they show how fake it is..look at the Voice and other rubbish on TV pretending to be quality TV when it’s not.

The Poms have always loved lavatory humour, and things don’t look like changing any time soon.
I don’t find anything funny about Mrs Brown, where you can see the punchlines coming a mile away. Subtle it ain’t.

Ha and what Aussie homegrown comedy will beat it….or ever be *shown* on UK/global TV? Classic response to slag off the ‘poms’ when clearly many people love it. It’s also Irish, eejit! I’m not a fan, but there is nothing homegrown to even come close to the “Poms'” worst comedy. Except maybe The Wright Way.

Maybe this is a good wakeup call for Australian producers and comedy writers to try and come up with good comedy that has broad appeal. Lets not mention failures like the Wedge, the Ronnie Johns comedy hour and many others which would take too long to type out.

Colonel I have already forgotten them. Have we produced any good comedies in the past few years? Please don’t bring up Hamish and Andy

As I suspected the Ozzy nation is completely devoid of a sense of humour. Must be the chips on your shoulders blocking your ears!
