This week, for the cost of two iPads (yep, two) I went to the Woz Live conference in Melbourne. I was not impressed.
What the hell is transmedia?
From advertising campaigns to online video series, the term ‘transmedia’ gets quite the work out. But what does it actually mean? Cathie McGinn trawls the media landscape for a definitive definition.

Transmedia, all media and multiplatform are terms often used interchangeably when referencing modern storytelling techniques. Yet, depending who you speak to, there are distinct differences between them.
According to industry experts Encore spoke to, the key elements that define transmedia can be summarised as follows: platform, time, audience, adaptation, and creative collaboration.

He not only has to narrate the show, but also keep the audience from losing their enthusiasm as they realise shooting TV programs takes a lot longer than the one-hour bursts they see in their lounge rooms. Nine problems stopping The Global Mail from getting an audience
While it’s a shame The Global Mail has failed to make an impact on the media landscape, the signs have been there for some time.I love the concept of a well resourced, philanthropically-funded independent news site. Anywhere in the world, that’s a rare and wonderful thing. In Australia even more so. So I hope that Grame Wood gets to see his investment make a difference.
And I have no inside info on whether Monica Attard’s sudden departure is linked to the site’s failure to find an audience so far.

The online-only title received a generous five-year funding commitment from businessman Graeme Wood, founder of accommodation website wotif.com, who donated $15million.
Five things that make a great suit

The top seven...most patronising pieces of communication

Australia’s Perfect Couple final gives Nine one of its worst 8pm audiences of the year
Australia’s Perfect Couple bowed out on Wednesday night with one of the lowest 8pm commercial TV audiences of the year.
The disastrous reality show – featuring couples competing in various tasks – pulled in just 610,000 for its final outing, according to preliminary TV ratings from OzTam. This compared to 1.3m for World’s Strictest Parents on Seven and just over 1m for Ten’s Australian Idol. Last week Australia’s Perfect Couple had rated 698,000.
The audience’s disdain for the Jules Lund-hosted series -which was cut from an hour to half an hour during its run – was underlined by the relatively solid performance of other Nine shows last night.
The episode of Two And A Half Men before Australia’s Perfect Couple averaged 1.3m, suggesting that more than half of that audience then turned over. After the show ended, the audience recovered to an average of 1.1m for RPA.
Seven won the night with 28.2%, just ahead of Nine’s 26.4%. Ten was on a disappointing 20.6%, only just ahead of the ABC’s 19.9% SBS got 4.9%.

It deserved to fail once Nine went all weak at the knees and didn’t show the boys kissing- wusses!
Also Jules Lund was the wrong guy – he is a great host of other shows but he has a nice guy image and can’t really play the mean guy well..

What utter rubbish, I guess ch9 could be happy that this sort of stuff doesn’t cost much. I still can’t get over that so many people watch 21/2 men, the shows failing clearly has nothing to do with taste.

Two and a half laughs, if you’re lucky. I haven’t seen a show since the 70s that telegraphed its jokes so obviously – you hear the clicks and creaks in the gag writer’s brain before the punchline dribbles from the actors, who have not the vaguest idea of comic timing.

When are Channel 9 going to get with the times? What a dreadful idea for a show. And it was doubly doomed by the woeful Jules Lund. He’s one of those guys that you really do wonder how the hell he gets on tv. Every female I know finds him to act and look like a little irritating boy. Urrrgghhh…
