Award-winning duo team up for new web-based series about wine

Nathan Earl and Glen Condie, the men behind the Cannes Gold Lion winning The Great Crusade for Qantas, have teamed up with The Chaser’s Chris Taylor in a new project, PLONK, set among NSW’s wine and tourism destinations.

The comedy series, supported by the NSW government through Destination NSW will debut in February next year and follows the story of a television crew as they travel through NSW trying to produce a wine program.

NSW minister for tourism and major events, George Souris said in a statement: “This new series will provide a unique platform to promote wine touring and experiences throughout NSW wine regions in a light-hearted way. Each episode will capture a different NSW wine destination, highlighting the quality and diversity of experiences available in the NSW wine regions – despite the presenters’ best attempts to critique the wine.”

The ensemble cast includes Chris Taylor, Nathan Earl and Josh Tyler who play comedic caricatures of themselves and is directed and co-written by Earl. Wonder’s Glen Condie is the series executive producer and creative director.

Earl said in a statement: “Growing up in the Hunter I’ve always wanted to make a show about wine but it took a while to really nail a point of difference. Wine shows in general are ripe for parody. With PLONK we get to celebrate the industry and poke fun at the way it’s portrayed at the same time.”

Filming on the series began late last month.  PLONK will be available online.

The Great Crusade campaign for Qantas worked on by Earl and Condie won a Gold Lion in the inaugural year of the branded content category at Cannes.
