Bauer media appoints NW editor as Elle’s managing editor departs

Bauer Media Group has hired Pacific Magazine’s New Idea deputy editor Mark Brandon as editor of its celebrity gossip magazine NW, starting in May.

The appointment comes a week after Jane Davies, the managing editor of Bauer’s newly launched fashion title Elle, took a redundancy payout and departed just four months after the international glossy launched in Australia.

Yesterday Mumbrella reported Elle’s features director Alyx Gorman was also leaving to join the Mamamia Network as editor of a new website.Brandon has around 15 years’ experience reporting for celebrity news magazines having started his career as a reporter for NW. He also worked for Bauer titles OK! magazine, where he was the news editor, and he was foreign editor for Woman’s Day.

He said: “The NW team is known as one of the hardest working in the industry and their dedication to the brand is evident on every page. I’m excited to be working with them and driving this strong, uniquely Australian brand into the future.”

Jayne Ferguson, publisher of the Bauer weeklies portfolio, said: “I am thrilled that Mark will be leading the NW team and steering the title into its 21st year. Mark is especially well placed to represent the brand and brings with him a depth and breadth of understanding in entertainment and celebrity journalism. His extensive media experience in the Australian magazine market and diverse industry knowledge make him a natural choice for the role.”

Bauer Media Group says NW magazine sells close to 5 million copies a year.
