Beautiful Creatures tops box office on $1.15m
A supernatural teen drama has topped the Australian box office over the weekend and given distributor Roadshow the top three films.
Beautiful Creatures, about a teen witch coming of age and finding her powers, took $1.153m across 228 screens for a $5057 screen average, according to the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia.
It was followed by Safe Haven in its second weekend, taking another $1.11m across 246 screens for a $4519 average.
Meanwhile Silver Linings Playbook, also with Roadshow, took $1.052m across 256 screens for $4,110 screen average. The film was up for numerous Oscars with lead actress Jennifer Lawrence winning for Best Actress.
Silver Linings Playbook now stands at $9.057m.
Amour, which won Best Foreign Film at the Oscars has opened across 24 screens for a screen average of $6,961 for distributor Paramount/Transmission.
Cirque Du Soleil: Worlds Away opened across 215 screens to make $456,000 and a screen average of $2,123.
Elsewhere, Argo, which won Best Picture at the Oscars has remained in the Top 20 box office for 18 weeks. Over the weekend the film made $135,000 across 51 screens for an average of $2,654. The film now stands at $11.873m.
