The Block draws 1.112m to help Nine win the night, while Ten’s audience share falls post Games

the block glasshouseLast night bathroom renovations saw The Block Glasshouse once again win the night as the most watched non news program of the night helping Network Nine to a narrow win over rival Seven, with a main channel audience share of 22 per cent compared with 21.2 per cent in the metropolitan cities.

However, Network Ten’s audience has fallen with the conclusion of competition at The Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, yesterday’s broadcast of the closing ceremony drew 148,000 viewers for the live 5.30am showing and 209,000 viewers for a special repeat at 9.30pm last night.

The result was Ten had an audience share of 10.4 per cent on its main channel down from 25.1 per cent last week when it had the Games and the finale of Masterchef, while multi-channel One went from 6.9 per cent to 2.4 per cent. 

Seven’s decision to return The X Factor to Monday saw the talent program draw 1.055m viewers while the debut of heavily trailed The Amazing Race Australia vs New Zealand at 9pm had an audience of 588,000.

The two-hour show was up against House Husbands for the first hour on Nine, which got 954,000 viewers, and was second in all the demographics behind The Block, with The X Factor third.

A special Q&A live from North East Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory, with an all indigenous panel drew an audience of 471,000 in the 9.30 slot while a documentary entitled My Granny The Escort drew 458,000 people for Nine.

In the news stakes, Nine News had an audience of 1.171m compared with 1.156m for Seven News in the 6pm slot, while the second half hour saw audiences fall to 1.149m and 1.134m respectively.

Overall audience share saw both Nine and Seven capitalising on the fall of their commercial rival with the networks tying for overall audience share with 30.7 per cent while Ten had 15.4 per cent down from 34.7 per cent last week.
