The announcement:

BMF has appointed Alex Derwin as creative director.

Alex Derwin has seventeen years experience in the UK, the US and Australia. He started as a copywriter at Ogilvy London in 1998. Four years later he ran away to Sydney where he stayed for the next 10 years, working at Publicis Mojo, Clemenger and the Monkeys. His next destination was Oregon, where he worked as a creative director at Mutt Industries, a start-up in Portland founded by former Wieden and Kennedy ECD Steve Luker.

Derwin joins BMF from Clemenger BBDO Melbourne and his international résumé includes award-winning work for brands including Nike, Nescafé, The Observer Newspaper, Nestlé and St Vincent de Paul Society.

BMF executive creative director Cam Blackley said: “He’s a quality hire and exactly what we need to expand the creative firepower here. I’m a big fan of his style of work and he certainly fits with our ’employ nice people policy’.”

Speaking of his appointment, Derwin said: “I’ve come at a great time. You walk through the doors and you can feel the energy of the place. Under Cam, Steve and Christina, the work keeps getting better and better and I can’t wait to get stuck in.”
