I wonder how they're tracking the effectiveness of this campaign? I'm thinking some unprompted awareness: "Off the top of your head, which major deities can you think of?"

Little but of NPS "On a scale of 0-10 where 0 is extremely unlikely and 10 is extremely likely, how likely are you to recommend Jesus to others?"

All good.

I spent half of yesterdays Bathurst 1000 race hoping the Jesus sponsored car would crash at Hell Corner so I could make jokes about it all day today.

Is the fact that I was denied such an awesome chance to exercise my wit proof that God doesn't exist?

What a philosophical conundrum that creates!

Does Australia have a ‘separation of Church and State’ policy or has everything now been thrown into this cultural melting pot of ours?

Whatever the 'message' was is not the point. The point was WHY did the station allow to air the ad at all. If the national channels are ‘for the people and ‘all the people’ they have to remain neutral ground in terms of religious content. Even in America, the land of the loony religious any denominational adverts are banned. You only find them on the specific channels.

So what business does Channel 9 have, aside from revenue generating, putting this on air during prime time or anytime for that matter? Yea, there will be lots of people harping on about 'freedom of expression' etc but this isn't about freedom either.

Being 'captive' audiance while watching a programme this is the last thing I want to be ‘sold’ on Sunday evening and find it offensive in the extreme to have this thrown in my face. TV adverts generally in Australia are bad enough as it is without having to endure this as well.

This is the thin edge of the wedge as if this is taken further (if, Channel 9 has a truly open policy of advertising to ‘all’) the public is or could get every ‘group’ to front up an ad promoting their thing. I can just see it now while watching ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire’ getting accosted by an ad on behalf of the Muslim sector extolling the nation to remember to fast from sun-up to sun-set or an ad by Fred Nile harping on about Right-to-Life and family values. But hey lets not stop there, lets also include: The Peoples Temple, Jehovah's Witness or the Scientologists, and thats just for starters. Surely we must give them their 15 seconds of glory?

AustraliansThe Australian public an be a little 'too laid back' on a number of issues affecting in their local or international environment and a lot more people should start taking notice about what is going on around them and speak up a lot louder. In the end if we do not get off our butts/sofas and act we dererve what we get in the end

Nice ad, although it was missing the word 'Unworry' and the NRMA logo.

Banning atheist bus ads that read "Atheism celebrates reason" is a bit much, particularly when non-believers have to watch this kind of stuff.

Religion is a bit like Crocs. Good for you if you love yours, but don't try and make me buy them.

Perhaps we sould let Jesus speak for himself.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.
....Light has come into the world but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds are evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it can be seen plainly that what he has done has been through God. John 3:16-21

One thing I've noticed about this thread - many of the overtly atheist comments have quite aggressive undertones. Why all the anger? Think for a moment about the intention behind this campaign. Christians truly believe the way forward is through Jesus Christ. The campaign is trying to share what Christians genuinely believe is good news, in what is an increasingly uncertain world. The motivation appears to be love and concern for others, I would be upset if they didn't give a damn.

Wow - 71 comments. Guess the ad has proven a success - it's got people talking... and providing a ready-made outlet for the Late JC's obedient servants to rush out and try to infiltrate the minds of all those helpless, doomed non-believers out there.

I do hope Bridget isn't writing all these messages on her (paying) boss' time though... definitely not a Christian thing to be doing skiving off from paid work to spread the word...

I think we may have reached an "impasse"

Bridget - I'm happy that you're happy. God doesn't exist for me, but if it makes you happy and you don't harm others, then knock yourself out.

Mr Corbett - If to quote you, you "prefer to live [your] life on other terms that are, [you] feel, more tolerant, more accepting and less judgemental of others" then this trite philosophical argument with Bridget on an industry mong-board marks you out as a hypocritical cock yourself, no?

Proven history -don't be preposterous. There is no empirical evidence that the writings in the bible are true. Don't let your faith get in the way of the fundmentals principles of evidence.
Also don't be obtuse Bridget; you and I know that the beliefs, attitudes and behaviours of the major religions are all fundamentally different. Hence the ceaseless murdering and persecution that blight the face of this planet. These differences are directly based around the guiding principles of the books that remain the corner stone of each religion. For the christian faith to be the one truth faith then the islamic faith (based on their beliefs) would be the wrong faith. So put simply, but accurately, if you're right then all the rest are wrong. Yes?
In which case you must concede that this must be able to work the other way; one of the other religions may be right and you're wrong. Yes?
If religion wasn't the cause of so much pain and evil doing in the world then I wouldnt give two shits either way. But it is and it does and that's why I care.
Any hoo...I need to get on. I need to go read Darwin and wonder at the natural world and you need to go to church so let's call it a day there. I guess we'll all find out in the end won't we? And unless I get stuck in thermiddle east (or numerous other places across the world) hopefully I won't find out too soon.

The bible isnt a story... its history... proven history. Based on events and people that are proven to have existed ... as for whether my book is the true book you might want to remember that the entire old testament is the torah and qur'an also contains parts of the same old testament books. As for "religions" being more judgemental, i have hardly been judgemental i have simply tried my best to answer ur questions and other peoples questions.. im still working on the answers to your divisiveness, judgement, and persecution questions so you get the best answer possible.

I believe in the sheer breathtaking beauty of the natural world, of the progessive never ending journey of evolution and I believe in the laws of the universe.
The bible is a story Bridget. You believe in that story. It's one book, many others believe in other books (Torah, Qur'an). You all can't be right can you..so which book is right and which book is wrong? How do you prove your book is right and their books are wrong? If the bible is right then you have to say that all the other books are wrong arent they? So if there is a chance that all the followers of those other books are misguided then surely you can appreciate that you too may be misguided?
I don't believe in those books and, on that specific level, I have little respect for those who choose to. If that book gives you comfort and makes things easier for you, or gives you guidance (becareful though!) then that's up to you. I prefer to live my life on other terms that are, I feel, more tolerant, more accepting and less judgemental of others. Not something that religions in general truly represent.
I'll pass thanks.
