The announcement:

Multi-award winning radio news journalist Glenn Daniel, recipient of the Brian White Award at the 2014 Australian Commercial Radio Awards (ACRAs), will take up a fellowship exchange this week at Mediacorp, Singapore’s largest broadcaster.

Daniel, currently on air at Smoothfm in Sydney, is a respected industry veteran with a pedigree of more than 30 years in commercial radio across WSFM, 2SM, 2DayFM and Triple M.

The Brian White Award winner will spend a week at Mediacorp, the leading radio organisation in Singapore, that broadcasts, news, sport, information, music and entertainment across 13 stations, in four different languages to audiences with a wide range of cultural backgrounds.

The award is named after the legendary Australian radio newsman, who was commercial radio’s first cadet journalist. It recognises achievement and effort in all aspects of radio journalism.

Glenn Daniel said: “The fellowship exchange with MediaCorp is a wonderful opportunity to see what Singapore’s largest broadcaster is doing with news and information across a range of radio formats. It’s a chance to exchange ideas on new ways to reach audiences in a constantly changing market, while maintaining the foundations which have made radio news a leader for decades.”

Joan Warner chief executive officer of Commercial Radio Australia said: “The prestigious Brian White Award enables radio professionals to forge valuable connections and exchange ideas internationally. We’re pleased to continue our partnership with Mediacorp to develop this invaluable opportunity.”

This year’s ACRAs will be held at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre on 10 October.

The annual event is a highlight of the radio industry’s yearly calendar with the awards attracting the industry’s stars, personalities and media executives from around Australia.

Organised by Commercial Radio Australia on behalf of the radio industry, the ACRAs include 34 categories, which cover all areas of radio broadcasting including news, talk, sport, music and entertainment. The ACRAs are peer judged by panels of industry members and winners are announced in each category across three areas: metropolitan, provincial and country commercial radio stations.
