Major shake-up for Brisbane radio as 4BC announces new presenters in key time slots
Brisbane talk back radio station 4BC has overhauled its 2014 lineup with new hosts for its breakfast, mornings, afternoons and drive shows as well as a new presenter of weekend breakfast.
Announcing “one of the biggest shake ups in Brisbane radio” the Fairfax Radio Network confirmed Ian Skippen and Loretta Ryan will host Breakfast. Skippen stepped in to host the breakfast show when Peter Dick left in August, and Ryan will move to the key morning slot from from the afternoon show she hosted with Moyd Kay.
Former Channel Seven news reporter Patrick Condren has been confirmed as host of the Morning show, a slot left vacant by long-serving presenter Greg Carey who announced in September he would be leaving after ten years. And the station confirmed Ben Davis, another former Channel Seven presenter, will take on Drive.
4BC is Brisbane’s only talk back radio station and has seen ratings fall in the recent surveys from Nielsen and recorded a 5.3 per cent share of the audience Monday to Friday in the latest survey in November.
The station’s audience share fell by 0.7 per cent in the six weeks to November 4, following a drop from a 7.3 per cent share of the audience to 5.8 per cent in September, an overall decline of 1.5 share points with a fall in audience across all timeslots.
Its weakest performance was for the evening shows Sports Today with Peter Psaltis and The Lounge with Walter Williams, however ratings for these shows increased in the six weeks to November 4. Both Psaltis and Williams will both continue to host their shows in 2014.
New hosts have been confirmed for Afternoons, set to be hosted by Michael Price and Heather Stott.
Price will move to 4BC from the network’s Brisbane music station 4BH, where he hosted the breakfast show, and Stott, a former BBC Radio Manchester presenter, will join the talk back station from ABC Brisbane where she has hosted the breakfast show for the last year.
Weekend Breakfast will be presented by Andre La Porte, the creative director of advertising agency La Porte Creative, and a guest presenter on 612 ABC.
News Talk 4BC general manager Anthony Frangi said the “powerhouse” line-up will bolster the station in 2014, adding: “The refreshed line up places 4BC in the prime position to lead the state’s news agenda each day and get to the heart of the issues concerning Queenslanders.
“The programs are headed by presenters who have covered some of the biggest stories not only in Queensland, but across Australia and the world.”
Lady of few words ” Won’t be listening anymore”

Bring it on. The previous line up was way too negative and right wing. Very uneducated ranting from some of those blokes. Hopefully these guys will bring some happy back to talkback instead of the non stop negativity they used to peddle.

Fabulous line up ….. Ian with Loretta is brilliant ….. They go together very we’ll … Ian has been so refreshing in the mornings and I am so happy cos it was going down the Shute….. Mary was not cutting the mustard. Loretta makes me laugh she is so spontaneous and down to earth … Looking forward to 2014 congratulations 4 BC

It will take big shoes to take over from Greg Cary…he is genuine and humble, intelligent and funny and above all very humble! Will miss him terribly! Best of luck to the new presenters!

Hard to believe this is happening to such a good crew, a rush of blood I suspect, been a long time listener about to turn the knob.

Turned off when Ian Skippen came on after a few mornings, cannot believe you would leave him there, so sad think your ratings will drop right off, you need to find another Peter Dick.
It is not the same station it used to be talk back in the afternoon is boring.
Sorry have enjoyed you for years looks like I have to find another station.

If the intention of 4BC was to alienate as many listeners as possible, by replacing our favourite announcers, then it has succeeded.
Peter Dick and Mary Collier were brilliant together. To hear the news that Mary has resigned was a shock, as she is an intelligent woman, with one of the most beautiful speaking voices in radio, and was a joy to listen to.
For the first time ever, I switched on 4BC this morning, as I couldn’t stand the drivel from Ian Skippen and Claire Blake any longer.
I feel like I have lost some dear friends.

So you keep the weakest announcers ( “Its weakest performance was for the evening shows Sports Today with Peter Psaltis and The Lounge with Walter Williams” ) and you dump the good ones?…
Yeah… That makes sense…
Doesn’t really matter though: The quantity, quality and number of ads on 4BC has become unbearable! Next, they’ll have ads within ads!!!
I’m switchin’. Bye 4BC. It was good while it lasted but you’ve really stuffed it now.

So pleased to hear Heather Stott is joining your station! I was fearful she would replace Kelly Higgins-Devine on 612 and was working out what my afternoon listening would be in 2014.Cheers Cecily

What a great line up. Talented and highly entertaining. A winner for 4BC.

I think Ian will do a fair job in the mornings with Loretta and I’m glad Mary is gone. Really tiring hearing how good she is all the time, seems like no else’s opinion matters if it is different to hers. Also good to see Gary move on, he is not a commedian and someone long before now should have pointed that out. Greg will be missed, there are huge shoes to fill there. I’ll keep listening to see where it goes.

Really enjoying Ian Skippen …BUT will tune out when Loretta Ryan joins him..it’s she the best 4BC can do..will miss Moyd

I can’t believe some are still “missing” P. Dick. Idiotic, uneducated fool he is.
And there are people here who say Skip talks over people??!?!
Remember DICK??? He would TALK OVER HIMSELF if he could!! And that laugh of his…. Don’t get me started. While I don’t wish him any wrong personally, I reckon his departure was the best thing for the breakfast segment on 4 BC.
As for the new team, wait and see: it only starts next year; no need to get our knickers into a knot right now.

I am looking forward to Loretta Joining breakfast again , just like the 4BH days it’s a shame Moyd’s not joining her .
Where will Moyd be going?

Our family are indebted to Greg Carey. He helped us when we were going through a crisis. He promised to do all he could and he did. He got the best possible outcome and we will be forever grateful. Greg you have a huge heart and you are loved by so many people. Gosh we hope you return. Susie

Pity to change the entire line up, Peter & Mary in the morning were the best, Moyd & Loretta in the afternoon were as good. Greg was ready to retire & I wish him well. Only hope he returns. Garry was good but I think he was ready to be replaced. Peter & Walter could do with a facelift. Breakfast hasn’t been the same since Peter left, Ian for some reason doesn’t do it for me.

Agree the morning “lineup” needed a revamp. However, not really sure about the combination. Why do we need two presenters? Top rating programmes around Australia usually have one male presenter-love them or hate them, they really do RATE! Just hope the “waffle” is kept to a minimum. And PLEASE – try to remember that Australia does not revolve around the Broncos.

Another Fairfax failing line up just like it’s sister station 2UE.
2GB is booming.
I listened to 4BC all day and I loved Greg Cary, I haven’t listened to 4BC since Greg left.
I am left without a radio station to listen too

Very disappointed to hear clare levander is gone. She was great for the station and will now be tuning off after 4oyrs listening

Won’t be listening to breakfast anymore. Just loved Mary but Ian Skippen is boring and outdated. I turned off afternoons with Moyd and Loretta ages ago. They lacked depth across a range of subjects and Loretta in the mornings just won’t do it for me. Will give Patrick and Ben a go and will continue with Peter P on sports – he is great. Looks like I will be switching to 4KQ or ABC for the rest.

I have listened between the abc and 4bc for a long time with no good alternative but I always shake my head at your choices. Now we have cricket on two radio stations covering Brisbane. That is truly dumping loyal listeners 4bc, you may pay a price for that. Internet radio, I just don’t care about you and your bad programming any more!.

Kim Mothershaw in the mornings is great as a solo act. A good sense of humour, well-informed. Keep him there. But why Loretta? Nice person, but very lightweight. Ian Skippen ditto.
Terrible to know that Greg Carey will no longer be hosting. Brilliant in every way.
Why can’t 4BC attract stronger personalities for its morning shows? Not brutal like Hadley nor one-eyed like Alan Jones, but someone more political with strong opinions and a bit of fight in them. The whole line-up is too airy-fairy.
Heather Stott can certainly hold her own. She’s very good.

Greg Carey, you will never be able to replace him, wonerdful person and presenter. Kim Mothershaw Wonderful on his own or with a partner better on his own. Skip sorry my boy just does not have it. I can only listen for about 5 mins then that high Pitched voice, boy saprano, whose voice will not break drives me a way from the Radio. Yes 4bc for someone who listens to you a good part of the day and most of the night, could you please get rid of 2UE through the night, radio resenters are just awful sice you lost John, we often get the wrong time due to day light savings. That’s about all. Good bye 4bc, the hasbeens
