British TV viewers to see Masterchef Australia

The adventures of Poh, Julie, Chris and the rest of the contestants on the first series of Ten’s Masterchef Australia are to reach a British audience.

The cookery contest is to be a cornerstone of new British pay TV channel Watch, which is part of the UKTV network. All 72 episodes of Masterchef Australia will air on Watch from January.

It will then get a second run on fellow UKTV channel Good Food from May 2010.

The deal, brokered by Elisabeth Murdoch’s Shine International, marks a homecoming for Masterchef which was adapted from what was originally a British format.

The Australian version was a huge hit for Ten with the audience for the final episode peaking at more than 4m.
