Budget Direct pitch enters final stages as new alien ad celebrates number of Aussies insured
The Budget Direct pitch is down to two agencies with BMF out of the fight, Mumbrella has learnt.
The insurance provider is expected to make an announcement on the successful agency before the end of the month, with 303Lowe Sydney and Host battling it out for the account, after the pitch was called in June.
Budget Direct has declined to comment on the status of the pitch.
The news comes as Budget Direct continues to use aliens Zeek and Zia in its advertising, with the pair enjoying some star-gazing before Zeek entertains Zia with statistics on how many Australians have used the insurance provider.
Last month Budget Direct director of marketing and digital Jonathan Kerr told Mumbrella the team was unsure if audiences would see more or less of its aliens after the pitch.
“At Budget Direct, we never rest on our laurels and what we’ve always been striving to do is ‘can we do even better’. That’s what the pitch process is all about. We have absolutely no idea yet if you’ll see more aliens or less aliens, it’s just about better connecting with the customers and once again, trying to stay ahead of the competition in the way we differentiate ourselves,” Kerr said at the time.
Budget Direct currently works with animation house Liquid Animation.

I really hope 303Lowe and Host opt to kill off these imbecile aliens. Can’t stand them!
Please, please, PLEASE have a social media campaign asking how to kill them off. I need to enact some vengeance for all the times these “Zeek and Zia” creatures have caused me endless pain.

Personally, these aliens are annoying characters however it surely beats the real life ‘budget love, budget’ duo. Obviously successful, as I do automatically associate the two aliens with budget now without watching the full commercial. So it at least gets me thinking of the brand, right?
Also, Budget seems to choose slogans and stick to it for a whole ad campaign but the problem is whilst they are easy to remember they are always annoying. ‘smarter, cheaper, winner’…great USP but delivery is like that song ‘this is a song that never ends and it goes on and on my friend…” where it’s just annoying to keep hearing in your head, on the TV or on radio!! Apologies to those that will now continue singing “that” lamb chop song!!

btw, is their commitment to ‘stay a head of the competition’ the real inspiration to the heads on the aliens!!
