Buzzfeed Australia hires Mark Di Stefano as breaking news reporter
Viral content site Buzzfeed Australia has hired ABC journalist Mark Di Stefano as its breaking news reporter.
The moves sees Buzzfeed’s editorial operation grow to five staff with Di Stefano will be responsible for breaking news coverage on Buzzfeed’s Australian website, having previously been a TV and radio reporter at ABC News in Darwin and prior to that was in the Sydney newsroom as a general audio rounds reporter.
“I am excited to join BuzzFeed and be a part of a team of brilliant journalists in a news organization that is shaping the future of journalism. I look forward to working with Simon Crerar at BuzzFeed Australia and establish BuzzFeed’s news arm here,” said Di Stefano.
The appointment of Di Stefano comes amid ongoing debate around Buzzfeed Australia and whether the site should be classified as a news website.
As Mumbrella reported last month, Nielsen has recently recategorised the website as news but is not permitting the website to included within the news rankings of the Nielsen Online Ratings.
