The announcement:

BWM Dentsu today announces the appointment of Alex Carr to the Sydney team as Managing Director.

Alex joined BWM Dentsu in his new role on 1 September, following a three-year stint as MD of Havas Worldwide Sydney.

“I am so excited to be joining the talented team at BWM Dentsu. After three fabulous years at Havas Worldwide helping to double the size of the agency and turn it from a relative anonymity to a major player, it felt like time for a new challenge,” Carr said.

“This new challenge is all about helping to propel BWM Dentsu Sydney forward and fulfil its potential. The aim is simple. Produce best in market creative product, utilise the incredible talent and skills in the Dentsu network and deliver meaningful results for our clients.

“Working with the team and the partners at BWM Dentsu, and with the support of an incredibly ambitious network, I am very confident that the outlook is very rosy indeed,” he said.

Alex will take over the role from founding partner Jamie Mackay, who has been the acting Sydney MD for the last 24 months and will now resume his role as Chief Strategy Officer, BWM Dentsu.

Paul Williams, Group CEO of BWM Dentsu, said he was excited for Alex to help shape the agency and keep it moving from strength to strength.

“BWM Dentsu is incredibly lucky in that we have a strong team and a great stable of clients. When we were looking for someone to run the team, we were conscious that we needed to find someone who would gel with our people and create the kind of ambience that fosters world-class work.

“In Alex, we have found someone who will drive the agency and our ideas forward while maintaining the core values of BWM Dentsu,” Williams said.

During his stint at Havas Worldwide, Alex oversaw one the most successful periods in the agency’s history, and drastically changed the quality of work and culture of the agency in the process.

Anthony Gregorio, Group CEO of Havas Worldwide, said: “Whilst I am disappointed to see Alex go, I’m delighted for him personally. He’s been part of an amazing period of growth for the agency and leaves a great team in place to continue the good work.”

Prior to his time at Havas Worldwide, Alex worked across a number of high profile clients at Saatchi & Saatchi, M&C Saatchi, and other top advertising agencies in both Australia and London.
