BWM takes over iiNet account from Meerkats under new CMO

Advertising agency BWM has been appointed to all creative duties on the iiNet roster, taking the whole of the business from Perth agency Meerkats where the brand was the foundation client.

The appointment returns a telco to BWM’s portfolio after losing Telstra last year. iiNet’s chief marketing officer Wendy Walker joined from Telstra nine months ago.

Meerkats told Mumbrella that it resigned the account last week. Meerkats MD Gavin Bain said in a statement to Mumbrella: “Over the years we have enjoyed a close, trusted and inspiring relationship with the iinet team so obviously this decision was not an easy one for us. It is a reality in our industry that relationships change and we believe it is both professional and appropriate to acknowledge when it is time for both parties to move on.

“iinet was a foundation client for Meerkats who allowed us to prove many of our passionate beliefs about modern brand communications and market-making. It will be sad to say goodbye, particularly to all of the wonderful iinetters that we have worked with across the years.”

Meerkats had held the account for six years, during which time the agency was responsible for the creation of brand spokesman Finn. BWM was appointed to the iiNet roster to do B2B work six weeks ago and extended its brief following the departure of Meerkats.

BWM Sydney’s GM Simon Hadfield said in a press release: “We’re excited to be working with Wendy in the future development of the iiNet brand in such a fast-moving industry.”
