Carolyn Maloney leaves OMD after 7 years, Martin Cowie returns to broader role at OMG
OMD’s director of people management Carolyn Maloney is leaving after seven years with the agency.
She is to be replaced by Martin Cowie, who returns to the Omnicom fold after four years elsewhere.
Cowie was formerly commercial director at OMD Australia, before moving to Carat Sydney, where he was managing director until 2009.
He takes on the job in addition to his role at recruitment firm Keeley Pope Media Recruitment, which he joined in February last year to set up the executive search venture KPMR Executive. Cowie will continue to work at KPMR Executive one day a week, but only deal with media owner-related searches, Keeley Pope told Mumbrella.
Cowie takes on a broader role as people and development director for OMD’s group buying brand Omnicom Media Group, which also covers OMD’s sibling PHD.
Peter Horgan, CEO of OMD Australia said: “Carolyn is the embodiment of OMD’s mission statement, ‘To be the best place to work, and the place that does the best work’. After well over a decade in the Omnicom family and a host of awards recognising people focus as the cornerstone of our business, she is taking some well-deserved time to focus on family, and a new business venture. She goes with our blessing and sincere thanks.”
Leigh Terry, CEO Omnicom Media Group Australia & New Zealand said: “Martin’s background as an agency lead and L&D specialist means he’s in a unique position to understand the role training and staff connectivity plays in a people focussed business. He’s a great addition to the leadership team will continue to evolve what has been built by Carolyn and the teams.”
Cowie added: “I’m delighted to return to the media group that pioneered emphasis on people and culture. How staff engage with their place of work is defined by how organisations deliver on investing in their people. I believe we have a rich heritage and commitment to continue our industry leadership as a great place to work.”
Cowie starts at OMG on 1 June 2012.

Carolyn, I remember well recruiting you to the DDB fold as Business Director on Lotteries many years ago. Little did I know at that time the tremendous impact you would have on the culture of that agency and the agency world more broadly. Best wishes with whatever you do next. Martin.
