Celebrity Apprentice debuts with just 566,000 while The Bachelor leaves reality rivals trailing

Celebrity Apprentice pulled its smallest ever audience after returning from  two-year break last night as Ten’s The Bachelor grabbed more than a million viewers ahead of its finale tonight.

Nine’s latest reincarnation of the reality show managed just 566,000 metro viewers at 8.40pm, well down on its 2013 debut which drew 866,000 viewers. It was beaten by Dogs That Make You Laugh Out Loud 2, which had 687,000 viewers in the 8.50pm time slot.

The Bachelor was the most watched non-news program of the night with the semi-final at 7.30pm drawing 1.05m viewers for an episode which saw contestant Sarah eliminated, leaving Lana and Snezana as the final contestants ahead of tonight’s finale.

In the same timeslot, Seven’s reality singing program The X Factor slipped below the million mark for the first time this series to 934,000 viewers while Nine’s The Block fell away to 807,000.

On the ABC, in the 8.30pm the second episode of Gruen saw audiences dip from its debut last week with 915,000 people tuning in, compared with 974,000 last week. Satirical comedy Utopia drew 797,000 at 9pm down from 847,000 viewers. A repeat of the Kitchen Cabinet interview between Annabel Crabb and Malcolm Turnbull at 8pm had 615,000 viewers.

In the news races Nine’s 6.30 bulletin was the most watched program of the night with 1.053m while Seven had 988,000 viewers while its earlier 6pm bulletin was a closer contest with Nine having 1.028m compared with 1.012m for Seven.

The closing of the gap in the 6pm slot will please Seven which had 448,000 viewers for its new game show The Chase Australia in the 5pm timeslot with the audience rising to 613,000 in the 5.30pm slot, ahead of Nine’s Hot Seat which had 520,000.

In the breakfast race Sunrise had 389,000 viewers for its New York episode as it continues its world tour, down from 397,000 the day before, while the Today show managed 298,000 in reply.
