Cheetah morphs into car in Mazda CX-5 ad
Mazda has released a CGI-tastic ad for the new CX-5 in which a cheetah morphs into an SUV.
The ad follows a teaser campaign launched a fortnight ago that featured a cheetah running through streets without revealing the car.
The campaign was created by Clemenger Harvie’s Mazda advertising unit 1MAZDA@Clemenger Harvie.
According a press release, “the CX-5 is the first Mazda production car to the new design philosophy of KODO – which emulates the muscular lines, strength and agility of a cheetah about to pounce – incorporated into its design.”
Print, digital, outdoor, direct and CRM will run in support of TV.

Single-minded stuff. Wow.

The overall idea is great… but the voiceover just doesn’t seem right. It looks like a car ad but sounds very FMCG.

Does “Sky Active Technology” mean it can move clouds as well?

The proposition that a Cheetah is an appropriate icon for a SUV is absolutely laughable.
The sequences where the animal morphs into the car and back again only exemplify how ridiculous this is.
Big budget junk advertising.
What’ll they use the MX5? A sea urchin? A cauliflower?

CGI: The Moving Picture Company (NYC) – Why could this not be done in Australia??

Can you really get the leopard print paint? That is the important question!

A cheetah my ass,
it’s almost a rip off of some Jaguar retail TVC’s I saw about 5 years back where they had a jaguar (the cat, not the car) doing lots of running and the Jaguar cat and the cheetah both have spots etc.
Still it’s probably not a copy – they’re just paying homage to the Jaguar retail TVC
