The chief financial officer of Southern Cross Media Group (SCMG), Stephen Kelly, has died.

The media group announced his death in a statement posted on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) today, saying Kelly was a “highly respected member of the senior team held in deep admiration and affection by the board, the company, staff and the investor community”.

“We offer our deepest sympathies and condolences to the many friends that Steve had at SCMG and, more importantly, to his wife Alex, children Josh and Ben, and his many friends,” Rhys Holleran, chief executive of SCMG said in the statement.

Southern Cross Media said it would direct its immediate attention to ensure the functions of the CFO were completely fulfilled. Shares in the company dropped by three per cent today.

The group announced on Friday that Kelly had taken an indefinite period of sick leave in order to receive medical treatment, but he died on Sunday. In the interim his duties would be shared among the Southern Cross Media Group’s executive team, the statement said.
