Chrissie who?
So just how did former reality star Chrissie Swan end up nominated for three Logies?
Marvelous as The Circle may be, a good result is still one with more than 100,000 viewers, which does raise the question of whether the audience really has taken her to their hearts. So we asked them:
Meanwhile, Ten wasn’t dodging the big issues in its report on its star’s success, including in its report footage of the following, somewhat mean, tweet: “If Chrissie Swan wins a gold Logie she will eat it.”
What a ridiculous piece of vision (the brunette with the clip board)…The Logies is a public voting system and you can guarantee 30 something blokes in bad clothes would not have a clue who Chrissy is. Fact is she resonates with a whole lot of people to busy to be walking the streets talking to strangers. If you asked me who was on the Footy Show I would not have a clue…it is called target demographic?!

Anyone who has watched The Circle has to admit that Chrissie is a breath of fresh air…she’s funny and personable and works well with her co-hosts and guests. Also loved her when she was on Big Brother — it’s good to see someone making the leap to successful career after reality TV appearance. I say good on her, have a laugh and go for the gold!

Great Journalism!
Each and every single one of these people being interviewed are in her target audience – they all look like stay at home mums! Infact, they must have quickly snuck out of the house and nipped down to the city during an infomercial and happened to do pop vox.
This portrayal is that good – you should send this to ACA!
(Seriously? What is Mumrella coming to!)

Hi Yolanda,
Thanks for your comment.
The question of how she got that large number of nominations remains a talked about topic, and one I thought worth a look. The results of our vox pop are what they are.
Would you have preferred we only featured the people who said no? Wouldn’t that have been a bit dishonest?
Personally, I expected everybody to say no – but again, having undertaken the exercise, it doesn’t feel like it would have been entirely fair to not put up the video, just because it didn’t match what we expected.
Cheers,
Tim – Mumbrella
Hate to say it (blame my skinny mother) but TV Week readers and more to the point voters would be LARGE TV consumers and probably LARGE themselves.
Chrissies nomination is one from the mass – that mass of LARGE Australians out there.
Go Karl!

WOW What an insight, would you be available for an ACA interview Jodes?

Yeh sure Yolanda – now we understand where your comment was coming from. Only thing is will you fit in the frame with me?
I think not.

Guess you would get even more blank faces if you asked… have you heard of mumbrella,.. logies are mass and so is she.

Typical Aussie knockers, here is a woman that has risen from nowhere, made an impact on the Australian public and because she is not the normal, blonde drop dead gorgeous contender, she is criticised. Acting/Hosting etc is not all about looks, she is down to earth, funny and compasionate, someone most real Australians can relate to. I hope she wins everything she is nominated for.

You shouldn’t put yourself down like that, im sure u can’t be that big! Your mum must be disappointed!
I am quite small so depending on how much room you spare for me I could go on with you but I have an education so they may not let me on…

I love Chrissie and I love The Circle. I’ve bee unemployed for nearly a year. Not because I can’t get a job. I reckon I could if I tried. But because I’d rather stay home and watch The Circle. Karl is a dag. Gibney is too safe and blah blah. Chrissie is what Australian TV has needed for a long long time. A natural, educated, good humoured woman who appeals to all. Go Chrissie.

LOL 40% of those interviewed HAVE heard of her
Also, I love the interviewing of those two European tourists

Never mind Chrissie.. What’s The Circle?

Stu so your saying you’d rather tax payers pay your way in this world because you’d prefer to stay at home and watch some tradgic day time talk show? Are you serious? Centrelink need to cut benefits to people like you, my tax money could be used for better things then you sitting at home watching crap on TV for example better healthcare, roads and even donations to Japan/Disaster recorveries.

@ Mathieu – before you start having a go at people about being tragic, you may want to get a bit of education and learn how to spell. Tragic is not spelt tradgic and Recoveries is not spelt recorveries…. but hey this article was not about criticising people – are is it? I really like Chrissie, and I am not a stay at home person who gets to watch The Circle, but on the times that I have been home sick or even on the weekend I do see it and I think she is great. Chrissie is hilarious, stands up for herself and others (as she did on BB when that not very nice cop guy was being an arrogant so and so to everyone), so I say good on her for being voted in. Why are people being so negative about it?? It’s the Logies not the Nobel Peace prize.

I heard Chrissie used to be a copywriter in melbourne for a high profile real estate agency…perhaps they all voted for her.

Question should have been followed up with “have you heard of the logies?”. I think you would have got the same amount of noes given the gap between the interviewees and the target demographic of TV week.

I thought the interviewer was great, I’d love to see her replace Chrissie on The Circle.

If Plucka Ducks nomination wasn’t approved (or so the legend goes, after he/she/it received more votes than anyone one year, but the producers disregarded those votes to keep the *cough* ‘integrity’ of the Golden Logie), then how can they accept this one, when it’s obviously been done by the PR department for the show, (love to see their phone/ISP bill).
Or more to the point, WHO CARES!!!! I think the fact that she got her break as a contestant on the quality that is “Big Brother” says more than anything.
And no, this negative feedback from anyone isn’t the typical ‘tall poppy’ syndrome, because frankly, she’s not a ‘tall poppy’!
And @ Claire, if you’re going to have a go at Mathieu about spelling, check your own grammer first. “are is it?” should be “or is it?”. Maybe address his (valid) point rather than clutch at straws such as his spelling.

@ Bucks – good pick up. P.S Plucka Duck was a character so that is probably why votes were disregarded. Each to their own opinions though hey? “Who Cares?” Clearly you do to write in 🙂

@Bucks – grammar with an ‘a’ champ. Spell check was invented to help dolts like yourself get by. I suggest you use it if your England isn’t that good.

@ Marto – “if your England isn’t that good”. No doubt now that your grade 2 error is pointed out you’ll try and back track and claim it was deliberate for the irony, but we both know better. So thanks for pointing this out, but in case you didn’t know spell check can also check your grammar or grammer, idiot. Would’ve also pointed out that there should have been a coma between ‘a’ and ‘champ’. Keep trying though, twit.
@ Claire – sorry, still waiting for you to address Mathieu’s point. Topic too hard perhaps?

Everyone’s getting so snarky on here today.
I never knew the story about Plucka. That seems so unfair because like the rest of Australia I love Plucka. If we don’t allow the award to go to a character then only journalists and current affairs hosts should qualify. Every actor and actress is playing a character on their show not being themselves.
That said the thing we love about Plucka is just how true to himself he is. And maybe that is why the people who voted for Chrissy voted for her.

@ mondayitis – wish mumbrella had a Like button for your comment 🙂
@ Bucks – there really isn’t anything to address with regards to Mathius point. Agree with tax payers money being spent more wisely and that is about it. I have moved on, maybe you should too..

The Circle is a hoot….I’m a stay at home mum four days a week and a uni teacher one day a week – I rarely catch The Circle but when I do, I have a good giggle.
I cannot think of a more irreverent morning TV show – it’s a breath of fresh air. Any panel that manages to take the piss out of the informercials without upsetting that particular stream of revenue is doing a pretty good job.
Chrissie is a great wit and the chemistry between the hosts is very natural. Most importantly, the show doesn’t take itself too seriously – it’s all in good fun. It’s “light” entertainment and they know it.
The Circle craps all over KAK.

@ Claire – fair call.

I hope Chrissie wins now just because of all the media attention she’s got. No one probably would have voted for her if the nomination just quietly came and went. In fact she is the only person I know of that is nominated for a Logie, I wouldn’t have a clue who else is. She should thank Eddie in her speach if she wins.
I might even send an SMS!
