Comedian Sam Simmons airs one-off mountain goat spot

A one-off TV ad featuring a still shot of a bighorn ram is to air tomorrow morning on Sunrise on Melbourne Seven to promote comedian Sam Simmons’ participation at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

The spot, produced by festival promoter Token Events, was tweeted by the comedian yesterday afternoon. It received 300 views in five minutes, and is now up to 1100 views in total, according to the promoter.

“This not exactly your standard ad. But it’s relevant to Sam’s style of comedy, which he calls suburban absurdism,” explained Tom Ward, digital content coordinator at Token Events.

“And of course it’s entirely inappropriate to air the ad in a Sunrise ad break, which we hope adds to the humour.”

The spot, which will run during the Melissa Doyle and David Koch-hosted show, also will air once on digital channels 7mate and Eleven.

It cost $3oo to produce with media spend of $4000.

“By posting the ad on Twitter yesterday, the idea was to spread the word before the ad went on air,” Ward added.

Simmons was a zookeeper before he started a career in radio, at 3RRR in Melbourne as a guest on The Pinch. He now features as a presenter and comedian in spots on Triple J TV and Triple J radio.

His act at the Melbourne Comedy Festival is titled ‘Sam Simmons, and the precise history of things.’
