News Corp Australia has today announced marketing boss Damian Eales will be promoted to the role of managing director of metro and regional publishing.

The move see Eales take on ultimate responsibility for the national sales function of Australia’s largest newspaper publisher, following the departure of Fiorella Di Santo in March. However, the national sales team will continue to be led by Sharb Farjami, who was promoted to the new role of national sales director in April.

The company has also promoted Geoff Booth who will join the News executive team in the role of national director of production and logistics, with full responsibility for the production and physical distribution of its newspapers to the newsagency system.

“These appointments reflect the confidence we have in our print and digital businesses which have enjoyed significant growth this year,” said Julian Clarke in a statement.

As part of the changes CEO of The Australian Nicholas Gray will now report directly to the CEO, whereas previously he reported to Jerry Harris.

Eales is one of Australia’s most high profile marketers and has been with News Corp Australia since 2013, when he took on the role of chief marketing officer.

Prior to that he was chief marketing officer at Westpac and has also worked at retailer David Jones, where he was group general manager of financial services.

The appointments come just weeks after News Corp confirmed that CEO Julian Clarke would be stepping down, to be replaced by Peter Tonagh as CEO and Michael Miller as Australasia chairman.

There have also been other senior changes at News, recently, with veteran executive Jerry Harris and corporate affairs boss Adam Suckling both departing.

In a tweet, News Corp Australia said it will also be appointing a managing director to oversee the publisher’s community publications. This appointment will be made in due course.
