New Myer marketing boss: Daniel Bracken

Myer has today announced new bosses to lead its marketing and technology operations.

Daniel Bracken, previously CEO of The Apparel Group – owners of fashion brands Sportscraft, Saba and Willow – is to become chief merchandise and marketing officer, reporting directly to CEO Bernie Brookes. His appointment comes a month after executive GM of marketing John Joyce departed after a six month stint.

Bracken’s arrival comes as Myer’s creative pitch comes close to its one year anniversary with Clemenger BBDO Melbourne and incumbent Badjar Ogilvy the two agencies remaining in the contest which began in August last year.

Bracken, who also previously worked in a number of senior roles for for Burberry will be responsible for advertising, digital, marketing, events and execution of the Myer brand strateg,y along with design, sourcing, buying and manufacturing.

Brookes said, “I am delighted to welcome senior executives with such broad international and Australian experience.”

Also appointed into a new role is Richard Umbers, previously executive GM in charge of Australia Post’s e-commerce and parcel service, who will become Myer’s chief information and supply chain officer. His appointment comes after Myer’s online shopping site humiliatingly crashed at the start of the store’s Christmas sale and remained down for eight days.
