Dark Knight Rises takes $3.5m in first day at Aussie box office
The much anticipated new Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises has made $3.5m in its first day at the Australian box office.
The super-hero film, distributed in Australia by Roadshow films, opened across 628 screens for a $5,573 per screen average.
As the film opens internationally today, these are the some of the first figures recorded from around the globe.
The final in the Christopher Nolan-directed trilogy includes an ensemble cast of Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, Michael Cane, Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
The film has an estimated budget of $250m.
