David Gaines departs Maxus
David Gaines has announced he will step down from his role as Maxus Sydney’s chief executive.
Gaines has said he will be starting a new venture, but has not yet announced the nature of it.
Replacing Gaines is Jon Chadwick of Mindshare Worldwide Portland.
At Mindshare Chadwick ran the global Nike business and has in the past lead strategy on brands such as Samsung and Unilever.
An Australian, Chadwick returns home after 17 years of working abroad. He will begin his role in late October.
Chadwick said: “I am absolutely delighted by the opportunity to join Maxus in Australia. It’s brilliant to stay within the GroupM family and I look forward to working with the great team and clients that make up the unique entrepreneurial spirit of Maxus Australia.”
John Steedman the CEO of GroupM Australia said: “I want to thank David for his outstanding contribution to Maxus Australia and wish him continued success in his new venture. I am incredibly excited to welcome Jon home and to have someone of his caliber running Maxus. Maxus is the fastest growing agency in the world and I am sure Jon will lead Maxus Australia to ever greater heights.”

This guy was a great leader. He helped junior staff get their head around the media world, and could smell the bullshit from a mile away.
