Downton Abbey grabs huge time shifted audience as Masterchef holds strong for Ten

masterchef 2015 logoMasterchef continued its strong run breaking the million viewer mark on the traditionally quiet viewing night of Thursday, as Seven opted to rest House Rules.

Ten’s cooking show was the second most watched of the night with 1.025m in the 7.30pm to 8.30pm slot, while Nine’s Reno Rumble could only muster 765,000 viewers up against it, almost exactly the same audience it achieved last week.

Downton Abbey at 9pm on Seven picked up slightly from last week’s over night result with 629,000 viewers. However last week’s episode recorded a massive 308,000 catch-up viewers taking it to a total of 931,000, bumping it above Reno Rumble overall.

ABC’s light hearted consumer affairs show The Checkout dropped to 641,000 with a Best Before episode, after getting 723,000 in the 8.30pm slot last week, according to OzTam’s overnight metro ratings.

Nine’s The Footy Show also enjoyed a resurgence to 702,000 viewers from 613,000 up against The Checkout from 8.30pm. Seven ran with Martin Clunes and a Lion called Mugie between 8pm-9pm which could only muster 520,000.

Bill Shorten’s Budget Reply speech on ABC from 7pm-8pm was not as popular as Joe Hockey’s budget proper on Tuesday, mustering 493,000 viewers, with 7.30 shifted to the 8pm slot getting 511,000

Masterchef topped the demographic viewing ahead of Reno Rumble and The Footy Show.

Seven News topped the night and the news battle with 1.053m at 6pm, ahead of Nine’s 1.015m. At 6.30pm Seven News and Today Tonight had 979,000 slightly ahead of Nine’s 970,000.

Nine topped the night with 20.4 per cent audience share, with Seven pipping Ten with 17.2 per cent to 17.1 per cent, and ABC well back on 11 per cent.
