Ed Smith to head Foxtel sales and marketing as Corin Dimopoulos takes News Limited role

Moving from News Ltd to Foxtel: Smith

New Foxtel boss Richard Freudenstein has brought former colleague Ed Smith across to the subscription TV broadcaster.

Smith, currently group marketing director at News Limited, was today named as executive director of sales and marketing at Foxtel. He rejoins his previous boss Freudenstein who was the CEO of News Digital Media and The Australian until late last year.

He will be replaced at News Limited by Corin Dimopoulos who currently works for British Sky Broadcasting in London.

News Limited is owned by News Corp which also has stakes in both Foxtel and BSkyB.

A series of changes have taken place at News Limited in Australia since John Hartigan announced his retirement, being replaced by Foxtel’s Kim Williams.

corin-dimopoulosDimopoulos is currently BSkyB’s director of marketing for Sky Sports and Sky News and also its director of cycling. Australian born and Kiwi raised, Dimopoulos has spent most of his career in the UK. Before joining BSkyB he headed marketing for experience company Red Letter Days. he also had a stint of agency life at The Works London.

According to today’s announcement: “As News Limited’s group marketing director, Mr Dimopoulos will be responsible for acquiring, servicing and retaining customers across the company’s hundreds of newspapers, magazines, websites, tablet and mobile applications.

Williams said “Corin is one of News Corporation’s finest marketing executives and his work at Sky, particularly across sports, has been exemplary. His experience of growing large and highly profitable audiences in a subscription environment will prove invaluable as we continue the rollout of digital subscription products across our mastheads.”

Dimopoulos will start after masterminding the marketing of BSkyB’s acquisition of Formula One which sees the new season begin in March.

He said: “Having heard some of Kim’s plans for the company, I am thrilled to be joining his management team. News Limited’s news, lifestyle, and entertainment brands are second to none, reaching over 13 million readers across print and digital platforms every week. The challenge of expanding the reach and relevance of these brands across existing and yet to be launched digital platforms, while ensuring we service the millions and millions of loyal print readers, was one I could not pass up.”
