I don’t think it’s fair on Michael to say he was sacked from 2UE. He resigned on a matter of principle, when management demanded that he sign an undertaking not to discuss certain matters on air and he refused. Thus far, his stance has been vindicated.

Management pointed out to me ad nauseum at the time that Fairfax’s radio stations were for sale at $300M and a condition precedent to the sale was the Federal Government’s Approval of the purchaser as “fit and proper”.

Why do I follow Michael Smith News?

Because he is bringing to light and pursuing things that all Australians need to know and the the main stream media, and in particular the ABC, are either ignoring, distorting or simply lying about. Instead of pursuing serious questions about public policy the main stream media look like they are simply regurgitating any and every press release from the ALP and Greens, while attempting to tear to shreds any opposing idea, comment or seeker of detail.

As a hard working, tax paying Australian citizen I expect and demand common sense, good policy, taking of full responsibility for their actions and the consequences thereof and respect for Australian citizens from any government and all media.

Excellent news! Am I sensing a trend back towards true journalism? Both Ben and Michael treat emerging stories with a healthy degree of scepticism, and don’t fall for spin. I read Michael Smith News every morning for the TRUTH. Other papers do NOT do so – they waffle and are usually biased. Also, Michael Smith RESIGNED on account of he wanted to have a TRUTHFUL interview with a person allegedly involved in the AWU slush fund. Please correct your story that he was sacked as apparently he was not but left on principle that he could not cover a public interest story about our then PM. I have been reading Michael Smith’s website since day one and find he is one of a few commentators who is willing to speak the truth (always backed by documentation) and make the public aware of stories our main stream media will not touch with due to bias or for fear of government reprisal. Michael brings to 2GB honesty and integrity and has taken a lot of flak since starting his blog which was predominantly started to highlight the treatment of Bob Kernohan a former AWU official whose simple desire was to have hard working rank and file union members misappropriated dues returned and used for the purposes they were intended.

I am thrilled to read that Mumbrella has promoted Michael Smith’s new radio broadcasting job with 2GB and Ben Fordham. However, it is unfortunate that Mumbrella incorrectly published the information that Michael Smith was sacked from 2UE when that is completely untrue. I would hope that now Michael has corrected that information, and Mumbrella is now aware of the facts, the story will be updated. It is unfair on Michael Smith for that story to be continually told when even ms Gillard’s version in Parliament that he was sacked has now been corrected in Hansard with Michael’s right of reply (accepted by the Committee of Privileges and Member’s Interests, headed by Nicola Roxon, then Attorney-General). Michael Smith resigned on principle, and has sacrificed a lot in holding onto his integrity. For that he should be applauded.

It is fantastic to see that Michael is once again a radio broadcaster, and his excitement is tangible, and infectious, and I could not be more delighted for him (other than if he was given a full time spot on 2GB). We found Michael Smith’s news site after Julia Gillard used a press conference to avoid on-the-record parliamentary questions regarding her highly questionable (and under police investigation) past conduct.

I have been following Michael si.nce he was on radio in Brisbane, and am an avid reader of michaelsmithnews – why? Because he doesn’t just make statememnts, he backs them up with evidence. His research on the PNG “arrangement” was pivotal in alerting other bloggers like Andrew Bolt and Larry Pickering. His was the first to reveal that Therese Rein, the so-called “first lady” was not first to visit a war zone. His research into the AWU scandal has been outstanding. I’ve never come across a journalist who so painstakingly gathers evidence and publishes said evidence to back up their claims. Without Smith’s dedication to the truth a $400,000+ fraud might not have ever got the proper police investigation is deserves (thankfully it is now a major Vic Pol investigation!)- and all because the PM of the day was involved, so many tried to brush it under the carpet or actively attack anyone who dared talk about it. Perhaps if you write another article and state that Michael “resigned on principle” rather than the childish “fell out with” would be a more professional description of his leaving the radio station. I have been a follower of Michael Smith News for a long time, and what I have discovered is that Michael is a brilliant Investigative Journalist – he puts the MSM to shame, many of whom are too lazy to properly investigate their stories and report the correct facts.

Another aspect of Michael’s blog, is the wonderful commentary, interpretation, experience and assistance supplied by the varied contributors to this blog. Michael tells it as it is (not like it is for an editor with a left wing bias or precariously holding on to his job carefully tip toeing through the tulips). The negatives obviously come from the stung cemented on loopy left and those that still believe that fairies live in the bottom of the garden. I believe Michael resigned on Editoral Differences. He had new information he wished to share with listeners. The Prime Minister at the time Julia Gillard put pressure on 2UE management to prevent disclosure of that new information.

That a Prime Minister could get away with doing that is jaw dropping.

This household is thrilled that Michael will be heard on 2GB. We have followed his progress since his honorable departure from 2UE (the word honorable cannot be used to describe Gillard and her Labor mates) and without his input, we would not have known the real truth. We must never forget that a few short months ago, the current Labor government ,which isn’t a shadow of most previous Labor administrations, with the support of the Greens, tried to silence freedom of speech to shut down justified criticism and scrutiny! I have followed Michael for months now. I am impressed with his integrity and the stance he took with the other radio station. I don’t know why he left the police force but I am sure he is a loss to their ranks.
Michael joining the 2GB team is great and I feel he will be an asset and bring ideas and contacts to a well oiled machine at 2GB. I like the “dip toe in” for Michael to start with Ben on a Thursday for him and the present team to get to know each other.

I think it’s terrific to have Michael Smith on 2GB, as I never listen to it., but great to see so many regular Mumbrella readers here supporting Michael Smith – including the oldies with their capslock issues.

Imagine, though, if something like this got Smith supporters dropping by because he had written a post on his own blog inciting people to comment and correct the claim he was sacked. Why there would be thousands of comments. Thousands.

Just found this website via Michael Smith News. I have never come across it before.
I just had a quick look and have decided to stick with Michael Smith News. He tells it like it is, he is a great investigative journalist and is honest to the boot! I’m looking forward to Michael having a regular weekly spot on 2GB, which is streamed 24 hours a day over the internet in our household, over here in Perth.

I’m particularly interested in what you consider are conspiracy theories, especially in regard to the Wilson/Gillard AWU Fraud affair. There is sworn information from Ian Cambridge, Bob Kernohan, Wayne Hem and others attesting to certain events which led to Gillard’s departure from S & G because her actions had caused the partnership ‘trust and confidence’ in her to evaporate..There is considerable documentation to back up those attestations.

However, no evidence whatsoever in Gillard’s defence has surfaced, or been offered. Bleating protestations made years after the events, such as “I did nothing wrong”; “I was young and naive” or “it’s all sleaze and smear”, just won’t cut it in a court of law. If you have any evidence, it will be fairly evaluated and tested against the documents available.

It is unfiortunate that several lawyers as officers of the court,and officials in the Union movement saw fit for their own protection, to keep Gillard’s intimate involvetment secret for 17 years but where pursuit of crime is concerned, I understand there is no time limit.

I totally agree with you, especially when people such as Gillard’s vile 457 visa spin doctor McTernan, is given paid guest spots in Australian media, and taxpayer-funded ABC misrepresenters like Jon Faine are allowed to excuse professional misconduct by solicitors and spread misinformation on the ethical and legal obligations incumbent on all licensed practitioners! .

This whole chain of correspondence is very suspicious. All over a lousy 10 minute unpaid segment on 2GB. Watching this idiot on “Go Back To Where You Came From” on SBS confirmed my views. Given the way he treated 2UE management, who were right in my view, 2GB management will never sign him up. No other radio choices then hmm….back to the police force? “The Media”, that bastion of truth and integrity ‘in the public interest’. The character and probity of a Prime Minister has been of no interest to the run-of-the-mill hacks whose chief talent seems to be to publish nothing more than press releases and to line up at so-called press conferences like a gaggle of schoolboys summoned to wait outside the Principal’s office. Gatekeepers, not watchdogs.

“Marketing”, is where you herd a bunch of likely suspects into a focus group, toss them a few loaded questions on product, politics, fave reality TV shows .. whatever .. and then set about selling your dubious talents on how to separate the populace from its disposable income. Hilllarious – thanks for your ‘back in your box’ comments Blackswan and Geoff Brown. Did I criticise his appointment? no. Did I question his journalistic integrity? no. All I was saying is that there is too much political commentary for a site that is targetted at industry news, not political rhetoric.
In addition, Mumbrella corrected their error in reporting, and yet there was still an obvious call to action to continue the criticism of the site from MS supporters.
If you want to have a rant about the right, the left, the extremes or the inbetweeners please utilise a website that is targetted for that sort of discussion.
I am here to read about my industry. Blackswan, if you are so bitter about this industry, why are you on an industry specific website?

Bitter? Moi? I spent over 20 years doing very well in your “industry” and understand well how it works.

My angst arose as I watched the damage of indoctrination done to generations of young Australians, of watching the Socialist Left’s apparatchiks and spin merchants peddling their lies and misinformation through marketing, the education system, what passes for entertainment, how ‘group think’ is promoted and most individuals’ capacity for critical analysis has eroded to the lowest common denominator.
