Encore Score results revealed – Tom Waterhouse joins list of most disliked while Hugh Jackman retains public’s love
The pummelling taken by Tom Waterhouse over live sports betting promotion has seen him become one of the country’s most disliked personalities, the results of one of the most authoritative annual surveys of public sentiment suggest.
The 2013 Encore Score was revealed this morning at the Mumbrella360 conference in Sydney confirming Australia’s most liked celebrity for the second year running to be Hugh Jackman with an Encore Score of 386 while Kyle Sandilands retained his title as Australia’s most hated personality with a score of -344.
This year’s survey quizzed 3,500 members of the public to gauge how Australians feel about a range of on-air personalities with the results charting how widely more than 1,000 Australian celebrities are recognised in addition to their likeability.
Highlights of the results include the top 10 most liked celebrities as judged by the Australian public in 2013:
1. Hugh Jackman
2. Rebecca Gibney
3. Olivia Newton-John
4. Anh Do
5. Magda Szubanski
6. Cate Blanchett
7. Hamish Blake
8. Geoffrey Rush
9. Simon Baker
10. Toni Collette
The most hated celebrities as judged by the Australian public:
1. Kyle Sandilands
2. Matthew Newton
3. Sam Newman
4. Pauline Hanson
5. Lara Bingle
6. Tom Waterhouse
7. Alan Jones
8. Brynne Edelsten

10. John Laws
For the first time survey respondents were also asked why they feel the way they do about these personalities with an additional “sentiment” element added to the survey process which is overseen by research house The Acid Test and based on a panel provided by Pure Profile.
Jackman’s charming and steady demeanour ensured his retention at the top of the list, with one respondent noting that “although famous, he seems very humble and a dedicated family man” while at the opposite end of the scale, Sandilands is described by the public as being “arrogant”, “rude” and “full of self importance”.
Words used to describe Waterhouse included “overexposed”, “pretentious” and a “mummy’s boy” with the public finding his “media saturation” offensive.
Last month Waterhouse bowed to public demand and pledged to reduce the number of ads for his online betting site.
The full list 1,055 celebrities is available exclusively on the iPad and Android tablet edition of Encore available from the App Store.
Is there anyway to see the full list or buy the full list for people who don’t have tablets? I have a small laptop. A phone and a desktop. I don’t need another device. It seems strange that the ability to access content even for those who are happy to pay is limited to just tablet owners. Please take my money.
